By relying on Google Cloud solutions, the company has improved its information centralization, enhanced the use of data, and provided a real guarantee of scalability.

Google Cloud results

  • Around 400 GB of data processed daily with BigQuery
  • 30 requests per second processed on Cloud Run
  • New apps launched faster, from weeks to just minutes
  • Nearly 2 billion operations performed per month
  • Higher data management security

Data processing and ingestion in up to 20 seconds

Based in Curitiba, in the Brazilian state of Paraná, ROIT has consolidated as a tax and accounting consultancy, with experience in accounting, tax, and financial management. Four years ago, the company decided to develop its own solutions based on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotization, directly linked to top integrated management systems (ERPs) and banks.

That is why ROIT currently defines itself as a technology company focused on developing solutions to meet a changing market and its customers' requirements. Its mission is to promote operations involving data integration, security, and process efficiency, improving business scalability and cost-efficiency.

As the company wanted to continue evolving, it looked for a cloud provider offering high availability and scalability to support its solutions. Flexibility and a better use of data with security, centralization, and processing agility were also considered. This led ROIT to choose Google Cloud.

"As we've always based our operations on innovation and technology, we believe our ideas align better with Google Cloud's. We decided to move to this platform because we were certain that new disruptive resources would continue to arise and that we'd be able to process 1,000 or 100,000 documents at the same time with no issues whatsoever."

A better use of resources: the key to success

Since 2018, the company has been building a legacy of public cloud solutions. On the backend (that is, code connecting the Internet with databases, managing user connections, and feeding the company's web app), ROIT has designed an event-driven architecture using Cloud Run and Cloud Functions.

The tools Pub/Sub, enabling the exchange of messages between standalone applications, and Cloud Tasks, a management service for distributed tasks, were also used to develop solutions.

The team identified the integration between Google Cloud services as another significant benefit. An example of this is the process that synchronizes Firestore and BigQuery and provides teams with easy access and effective analytics, based on previously collected data. Apart from this, the joint execution of Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, and BigQuery enables data processing and ingestion in up to 20 seconds.

"Google Cloud's scalability and computing power is astonishing. BigQuery is responsible for processing around 400 GB of data on a daily basis. With Cloud Run, we can process 30 requests per second. And finally, Firestore can attain 2 billion operations per month."

Guilherme Kluber Mercurio, CTO, ROIT

Over time, the company has been improving tool usability and it now creates operations with the cloud taking a prominent role in everything related to DevOps. Therefore, the relevant impact on deliveries, supported by higher team productivity, was another advantage.

New projects involving cloud technology

Google Cloud experts are still supporting ROIT. They guide the company through the best options in terms of architecture, better product structuring, and smart use of resources.

"We usually hold meetings between our teams and Google Cloud's to discuss new market demands and updates. We follow best practices closely, and one thing is for sure: we are not afraid of changes," says Guilherme Kluber Mercurio.

Looker, a cloud-native business intelligence platform, was recommended at one of those meetings. And the recommendation proved extremely useful because, thanks to Looker, ROIT gained secure access to real-time data.

"Looker helped us monetize data, and represented a significant shift in terms of internal and external analytics, including cost savings and the possibility of gaining further insights. One of the most important benefits was that data deployment time was reduced from one week to a few hours," explains ROIT’s CTO.

This BI tool makes it easier for the company to launch new apps: a task that used to take weeks can now be accomplished in a few minutes. As a result, the company improved data monitoring, leveraging top security features. With the use of Looker and BigQuery, ROIT has already developed 288 dashboards, processes 1.45 PB of data monthly and deals with approximately 1.9 million queries per month.

"Data is now even more valuable to us. It's great to tap into the stability of a reliable service provider, where we don't have to worry about security, management, and certification issues. Relying on Google Cloud actually means that."

Guilherme Kluber Mercurio, CTO, ROIT

The company now expects to leverage Dataflow, innovating with data pipelines in a different architecture. Cloud Data Fusion is planned to be used for catalogs and metadata to power a data-driven culture. This helps ROIT continue to build a promising future based on new ideas, plenty of knowledge, and a massive use of data intelligence.
