Improved architecture with a multicloud strategy

The agricultural industry is undergoing major, innovative transformations thanks to cloud technology. Together with Google Cloud, Argentinian agricultural microbiology company Rizobacter began to modernize its architecture, a process that has provided several benefits and expanded its business in under three years.

In 2019, the Grupo Bioceres Crop Solutions company decided to start its cloud journey by deploying solutions to improve service quality and meet the market’s new needs.

Rizobacter understands that the industry’s future requires technological innovation, sustainability policies, and increased securities due to migratory demands from the global market. To ensure it would be at the forefront of these trends, the company had to incorporate collaborative work tools and cutting-edge solutions to manage databases and servers in the cloud.

To follow this vision, the company sought to develop a strategy to obtain a multicloud architecture together with Google Cloud Premier Partner aeros. This led to the creation of the “Data Center Migration” project to meet expansion goals in national and global markets.

An integration effort

Based on a hybrid infrastructure, the company’s tech development team and aeros have deployed several Google Cloud solutions to increase the effectiveness of Rizobacter’s system.

In the past, workloads were hosted in an on-premises data center. As a result, the company had to deal with platform adoption, internal knowledge, and project planning from scratch.

After analyzing available products, the company has deployed tools such as Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Cloud NAT, Cloud Router, Cloud VPN, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Cloud Monitoring, and Identity and Access Management (IAM).

It has also incorporated Identity-Aware Proxy (IAP) to increase security for accesses to private apps. Thanks to this wide array of products, the company has managed to meet its growth goals and improve its employees’ working routine.

Deployment results

Using Google Cloud’s rightsizing recommendation tools, Rizobacter has secured a robust, efficient infrastructure.

“One of the main benefits is that the IT team does not spend time on operational tasks, as keeping systems running and spending time expanding the business is far easier with Google Cloud.”

Francisco Novello, Head of Technology, Rizobacter

Google Cloud’s tools also allow the company to deploy and test new services on demand, increase security, and meet each project’s input standards.

Another benefit Rizobacter has seen is that it uses fewer resources. On one hand, load runtime has been reduced. On the other, deploying Google Cloud has not involved significant costs—quite the contrary. This has been seen as a differentiator for the solution in the market.

The time needed to configure servers has been reduced from days/weeks to a few minutes, thanks to Google Cloud’s simplicity. Moreover, load balancers have made it possible to deploy service accesses with high availability and to provide one-click domain user integration.

This has brought changes to the company’s working culture as more hours can be spent on detecting new needs and potential innovations, as well as improving the company’s IT department's internal positioning thanks to a quick resolution.

“Service recovery after failures is automatic, with no need to intervene in the system. This is imperceptible for users and gives us the chance to keep working seamlessly.”

Nicolás Balmaceda, Head of Architecture and Innovation, Rizobacter

The ability to deploy new services in minutes ensures the company can set its sights on growing in the future.

“In Google Cloud, Rizobacter can make sure it’s using its infrastructure comprehensively and efficiently, getting the best performance at the most cost-effective price.”

Santiago Fontana, COO, aeros

In future, the company wants to incorporate more Google Cloud tools to further increase productivity, process efficiency, and service availability.

Potential projects assessed by Rizobacter include the deployment of AI-based solutions to further expand the business and increase product quality.
