In recent years, SCG has adopted more environmentally friendly and sustainable manufacturing processes, broken new ground with innovation, and implemented a cloud-based, data-driven business model.
"SCG President and CEO, Roongrote Rangsiyopash, recently outlined three key business goals to accelerate company growth in Southeast Asia and around the world," says Tharinee Chucharoen, Digital Technology Manager at SCG. "The first creates new revenue streams by delivering services and solutions, rather than one-off products. The second prioritizes strategic business decisions that are data driven. And the third shifts our focus to the customer."

To help SCG achieve the vision, Tharinee knew the company needed to implement more agile, scalable, and efficient IT operations by migrating all on-premises infrastructure and applications to the cloud. Tharinee also wanted to upgrade SCG’s legacy SAP ECC to S/4HANA, which would enable the company to significantly accelerate performance, deliver real-time reporting, and consolidate multiple applications.
"SCG previously relied on multiple on-premises systems and applications to manage production, monitor the supply chain, and run our sales and marketing initiatives," explains Tharinee. "However, this legacy setup was unable to support the rapid testing and rollout of new applications—and couldn’t efficiently scale. We also needed in-depth and actionable analytics, real-time reporting, secure and centralized storage, and full enterprise visibility across all departments and sites."
After formulating a cloud migration plan, Tharinee moved quickly to enlist the help of DXC Technology, SCG’s long-time Managed Service Provider (MSP). DXC Technology endorsed the highly secure-by-design infrastructure of Google Cloud, proposed the parallel and simultaneous migration of legacy SAP ECC workloads to S/4HANA on Google Cloud, and outlined an accelerated implementation timeline of six months.

SAP S/4HANA—running on SAP on Google Cloud—is now SCG’s primary Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP). SAP on Google Cloud enables the company to make data-driven, strategic decisions and operate a customer-centric construction business that focuses on delivering services and solutions. With BigQuery Connector for SAP, SCG completes queries 63% faster, accelerates analytics report deliveries by 77%, and reduces operational and data warehousing costs up to 52%. SCG also leverages Looker Studio to transform raw BigQuery data into actionable analytics that are displayed on customized dashboards.
"Migrating SAP workloads in parallel with on-premises applications and infrastructure presented its own unique set of challenges," notes Krissana Boonprasert, Client Partner Manager at DXC Technology. "That’s why we closely collaborated with SCG as an extended member of its team to plan the migration and modernization of SAP ECC to S/4HANA on Google Cloud, execute the migration and optimize workloads and operations. Proactively identifying and resolving any unforeseen issues with the Google Cloud team enabled us to implement a seamless migration."
App Engine is another key Google Cloud solution that SCG uses to rapidly develop, test, and deploy new applications. Such web and mobile applications include the Ready Mix Concrete - Sales and Operations, Machine Learning for Production and Maintenance, and the Ordering "App Engine frees up our developers with zero server management and zero configuration deployments," says Tharinee. "We focus on code while App Engine automatically manages infrastructure concerns. This allows us to shift more resources to R&D so we can more quickly develop new customer solutions and services."
SCG also taps into Cloud Monitoring to efficiently observe the performance, availability, and health of its applications and infrastructure across all departments and sites.
"Cloud Monitoring significantly reduces overhead by delivering one integrated service for metrics, uptime monitoring, dashboards, and alerts," explains Tharinee. "Metrics, events, and metadata are displayed with rich query language that makes it easy to identify issues and uncover patterns, accurately measure user experience, and improve collaboration with developers."

SCG continues to work with DXC Technology to optimize DevSecOps on Google Cloud, as well as trial additional Google Cloud solutions such as BigQuery ML to create and run advanced machine learning models.
SCG and DXC Technology are also exploring how the Google Marketing Platform can be leveraged to create an omnichannel marketing strategy that effectively targets both businesses and consumers. With the Google Marketing Platform, SCG can combine advertising and analytics to create quality customer connections, generate deeper sales insights, and improve marketing results.
