Saves around $300K per year in infrastructure costs since the migration
The rise of ecommerce has changed the way we shop - not just in traditional retail, but also across other industries such as banking or healthcare. For almost any consumer-facing company, an online presence is a necessity. In 2022, global retail ecommerce sales reached $5.7 trillion, making up almost 20% of the total estimated retail sales.
But being online is not just about having a website. For a company to truly serve its customers, it needs to understand and adapt to their needs. Since its launch in 2013, indigitall has been helping companies to build lasting relationships with customers, by easily identifying, segmenting and communicating through preferred channels.
"We help companies reach their customers in the way that they want to be reached," says Xavier Omella, Co-founder at indigitall.
indigitall's combination of ease of use and omni-channel communications helped the company to grow beyond its native Spain across Europe and the Americas. As the company expanded, it turned to Google Cloud to help create an infrastructure that could cope with demand.
A one-stop shop for omni-channel communications
indigitall's offering is about giving clients the power to get the right message to targeted customers in the most relevant way. The company connects clients to omni-channel customer communications via a simple, focused dashboard, allowing them to concentrate on business-critical decisions while indigitall takes care of the technical detail.
Clients access the platform via a web app, which can quickly and easily synchronize with existing customer relationship management systems. On the platform, clients can carry out detailed customer segmentation, organize and execute campaigns over a multiplicity of channels, analyze the results of those campaigns, and make use of the platform's predictive AI to take proactive decisions and shape future outcomes.
"Since 2016, we have been growing very quickly, and we wanted an infrastructure that could scale at speed but also help us stay agile with innovative solutions, cost efficiency, and good levels of support. Google Cloud was the only solution we found that combined everything we wanted."
—Xavier Omella, Co-founder, indigitallMaking all of this work intuitively and simply for the client in the platform takes great care in design and large resources behind the scenes. As the company began to expand, it looked to optimize the technology it was using.
"Since 2016, we have been growing very quickly, and we wanted an infrastructure that could scale at speed, but also help us stay agile with innovative solutions, cost efficiency, and good levels of support," says Omella. "Google Cloud was the only solution we found that combined everything we wanted."
Migrating to Google Cloud with minimal disruption
Beginning in 2018, the migration to Google Cloud was a delicate process, especially for clients like banks and insurance companies, which relied heavily on indigitall's solution. "The critical point for us was to migrate the clients without interrupting the service," says Omella. indigitall moved clients over one at a time over the course of the next three years to minimize disruption; learning a little more about Google Cloud and how it worked with each migration.
"We use BigQuery to measure the impact of the campaigns that our clients carry out, so it's a huge part of our platform. It gives us a very powerful statistical understanding of how customers are responding to different approaches."
—Xavier Omella, Co-founder, indigitallGoogle Compute Engine (GCE) virtual machines Cloud Functions form the backbone of the new infrastructure, according to Omella: "We use GCE and Cloud Functions to manage and process all of our communications with clients, so we need them to be able to scale and be very stable."
Cloud SQL handles the database management for indigitall, while BigQuery provides the foundation for all of the platform's most fruitful data analytics. "We use BigQuery to measure the impact of the campaigns that our clients carry out, so it's a huge part of our platform," says Omella. "It gives us a very powerful statistical understanding of how customers are responding to different approaches."
The information from BigQuery also helps to train the AI-powered elements of indigitall's platform, which offer suggestions as to how best to approach customers based on the results of past campaigns. While the AI is mainly based on proprietary tools built by indigitall, elements of the chat functionality are supported by Dialogflow, the Google Cloud conversational AI technology. Meanwhile, the company has deployed Google Workspace to improve communication and collaboration for its employees.
indigitall has engaged the services of Google Cloud Partner Devoteam to help the company get the very best out of the tools available with Google Cloud. "The partnership with Devoteam has been very satisfying for us," says Omella. "We can count on their expertise with the technology to support us when we need it but they also serve as a point of contact with Google Cloud. They can alert us to new features or products that might be coming and allow us to think strategically about our technology."
Global expansion, premium service
Having a technology infrastructure that can scale on demand means that indigitall has been able to grow without sacrificing its commitment to its existing clients. "The number one priority for us is providing the best service we can to our clients, and we've had no issues there even as we've hit an inflection point with our expansion," says Omella. "I'm very happy with the stability we get from Google Cloud."
As the company moves further into Europe and the Americas, adapting to different compliance requirements has become increasingly important. Google Cloud's global network of data centers allows indigitall to keep sensitive data in specific regions and comply with the most stringent data security requirements.
In the same way that indigitall simplifies communications for its clients, Google Cloud has helped to simplify operations for Omella and his colleagues, allowing them to focus on building the best product they can. With the use of innovative pricing schemes like committed use discounts and the guidance of Devoteam, indigitall has saved around $300,000 per year in infrastructure costs since the migration.
In addition, developers are able to test and ship updates within hours, leading to more mature features and an improved user experience for clients, while monitoring and disaster recovery has required very little additional effort.
"We've saved on technology costs, but we've also been able to keep a very lean operations team thanks to the support we get from Devoteam and the ease of use of Google Cloud," says Omella. "That means we can reinvest the resources we save back into solving core business challenges."
Building the future of customer communications
With Google Cloud at its core, indigitall has continued and even accelerated its rapid growth. By the end of 2022, the company had increased revenues by more than 40% and, thanks to new deals and expansion into new territories, is on course to double its revenues over 2023.
"We are always innovating and experimenting to help our clients and what we love about Google Cloud is that it has the same rhythm of innovation and releasing new features that we do. It's allowed us to move very quickly and we'll continue doing so in the future."
—Xavier Omella, Co-founder, indigitallBut indigitall's growth is about more than geographical expansion. The company is constantly looking for new ways to serve its clients and build on its existing platform.
"We are always innovating and experimenting to help our clients," says Omella, "and what we love about Google Cloud is that it has the same rhythm of innovation and releasing new features that we do. It's allowed us to move very quickly, and we'll continue doing so in the future."
