Headquartered in Belo Horizonte, RJ Consultores by TOTVS has been operating for over three decades as a bus ticket sales software developer, bringing innovation to this industry's operations. Its technological solutions are developed for the digital transformation of road transport companies, where all processes are carried out electronically in an integrated and secure way.

The company sells around 2.5 million tickets per day, serving 10 countries in three continents and over 400 active clients globally. Its core product, totalBUS, provides a set of solutions, including Pricing & Revenue Plus.

This service collects and analyzes granular data and dynamically manages prices and offers. It also gives critical information to monitor prices, thereby supporting smart, assertive, and data-driven decision-making, which helps the company maximize client revenue.

Although the organization already relied on a multi-cloud environment to develop and support its operations and products, the team identified the need for other cloud-based alternatives for a vital component of this solution: Revenue Management. This feature is responsible for dynamic pricing, which enables clients to get the best route and price options.

As this resource takes several variables into account, such as baggage inclusion, seat allocation, and other additional items, the intensive use of data and AI solutions was key to build Revenue Management. Consequently, RJ Consultores by TOTVS kicked off its Google Cloud journey.

A challenge to be addressed and the necessary support to move forward

Conversations between the company's and Google Cloud's engineering and technical teams began in 2021. The organization intended to deploy a tool to support Revenue Management, and Vertex AI was the perfect match. Later, teams completed a fully functional PoC, based on actual target audience data, to assess its implementation.

The development journey took six months, and the project entered into production during the first half of 2022, focusing on enhancing user experience and delivering immediate value and a future-based vision to clients.

Other tools were also significant for the project, including Cloud Build, which mirrors code repositories of RJ Consultores by TOTVS and runs CI/CD processes. Also, Cloud Storage stores elements generated and data used by Revenue Management processes.

Moreover, Cloud Run responds to requests from other RJ Consultores products. And Compute Engine maintains VMs for coding and testing algorithms before integrating them into automated pipelines. Using these and other interconnected and complementary tools, together with the agile support services provided by Google Cloud's team, contributed to the project's success.

Easier management and automated task execution

Choosing user-friendly, managed solutions to develop Revenue Management brought several benefits to RJ Consultores by TOTVS, such as reinvesting time that otherwise would have been spent on infrastructure. This enabled experts to focus more on strategy and to monitor over 30 processes simultaneously.

Google Cloud technology also led to more efficient data processing, including tasks related to batches with over 40 million records, for the biggest client, and an average of 20 million records for other clients.

Today, the team's mission is to continue evolving. To that end, the company is assessing the possibility of building an optimization feature that would benefit its clients, both in terms of market share and revenue. The power of Google Kubernetes Engine would be crucial for this endeavor.

The organization also intends to explore new cloud solutions to decide on driver relocation, based on the route specified for each trip. AI-based applications offered by Google Cloud are also under analysis by RJ Consultores by TOTVS to reach this goal.
