Enabling change
Narvar supports leading commerce brands through every part of the customer purchase journey with its intelligent customer experience platform. As retailers become increasingly cloud- and digitally-native to meet the needs of shoppers, Narvar migrated to Google Cloud to improve support of its customers’ shifting requirements.
Google Kubernetes Engine is a central driver for Narvar, as it powers the platform’s microservices architecture. Usage-based pricing also reduces operating costs by preventing excess CPU capacity that would otherwise go unused after being provisioned. BigQuery provides a data warehousing solution that emphasizes ease of use, requiring minimal maintenance from Narvar. Administrators have been able to let BigQuery handle tasks such as scaling capacity alongside storage and instance management. Stackdriver is used for logging, while Cloud SQL provides fast database administration.
Narvar also partnered with YugaByte to provide the cloud-native data infrastructure required to power its microservices architecture on Google Cloud. For Narvar, YugaByte DB delivers high performance and global data distribution, without compromising consistency or SQL semantics.
“Using a cloud-native distributed SQL DB like YugaByte DB has made our multi-cloud strategy simpler, allowing us to provide our customers with choices including Google Cloud,” says Ram Ravichandran, CTO at Narvar.
Operational tasks such as application migrations, auto-scaling, and monitoring are performed at lower costs than with DynamoDB, which was Narvar's previous database. Along with its technical strengths, YugaByte continues to deliver ROI with proactive customer support that spots potential issues and prevents downtime.
“We’ve always provided infrastructure for our customers, but we had to start thinking about the hosting preferences of our retail customers and what that meant for the next evolution of our technology,” says Ram. “Google Cloud and YugaByte are built around this future and help us with the things that matter, like reliability, Kubernetes support, and high performance.”
Since migrating, Narvar has seen improved scalability across its platform along with reduced latency. The move to Google Cloud in partnership with YugaByte also highlights the key question Narvar wanted to answer heading into the future: how could the Narvar platform be scaled to handle product and team growth globally? As Narvar continues to build new products and microservices, Google Cloud gives the company the focus and resources it needs to quickly respond to customer requirements across its platform.
“Narvar is hyper focused on providing the best customer experience platform for retailers, and we needed to maintain this focus instead of being diverted toward day-to-day IT management,” says Ram. “When it comes to backend administration, Google Cloud simply works, and that’s an invaluable asset.”
