Born with a vision to change lives globally, Success Resources has been in the educational seminar industry for more than 20 years. The company has inspired more than 10 million people through a host of speakers from around the world, including American author and coach Tony Robbins and businessman and author Robert Kiyosaki.
Although the company's main business is in providing educational seminars and programs, Alex Yeoh, Senior IT Manager at Success Resources, says that the company has recently begun to look into other areas to augment and refresh its brand.
"Our goal has always been to change lives in a positive way, so while our core business will always be in providing educational seminars, we have been exploring other areas that can improve people's lives," Yeoh explains.
In 2019, Success Resources decided to expand their portfolio and work on other development projects. To date, they have built applications ranging from blockchain applications, ecommerce, and a consumer rewards program. The rewards program currently runs in Southeast Asia and has more than 110,000 users.To support the launch and growth of this rewards program, the company turned to Google Cloud.

The rewards app allows consumers to receive points every time they make a purchase with a partnering merchant. Upon successful accumulation of points, they can redeem a range of items that include household appliances or choose to participate in special events and seminars.
Since Success Resources had always been on another cloud provider, it launched the rewards app on the same platform. However, as the number of subscribers began to grow, the team found many infrastructure problems that would lead to the app crashing due to latency issues, resulting in poor customer experience.
"We received many complaints from frustrated customers because the system would often freeze up or crash, preventing them from successfully redeeming their items," Yeoh recalls.
It was around this time, he was introduced to Google Cloud during a Cloud OnBoard session held in Kuala Lumpur. "What first attracted me to Google Cloud was an ad claiming that we could save up to 10% of our infrastructure costs. I was intrigued to learn how that could be done." Coupled with the problem the app was facing, Yeoh decided to learn more about the possibilities of Google Cloud products.

Upon deciding to migrate to Google Cloud, Yeoh was connected with the Searce team, who helped move the app onto Google Cloud. The partnership with Searce proved to be a valuable one for Success Resources. Yeoh recalls, "Previously, we would often run into issues whereby our virtual machines (VMs) couldn't cope with the growing number of users. Searce helped us revamp our entire infrastructure on Google Cloud so we could scale up according to the necessary workload."
Yeoh adds that he used to have to stay up past midnight to address problems faced by customers. But this is no longer the case since Searce helped with the company’s migration to Google Cloud.
The team used Compute Engine to set up the required virtual machines to run its applications and Cloud SQL to run managed SQL databases. Cloud Load Balancing helped to improve traffic and new application processes.

Success Resources needs to be prepared as the number of users for the app continues to grow. At the same time, the company is already working on building its next big thing. The team is developing its own cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, with Searce helping them migrate all of their blockchain workloads to Google Cloud.
“The project is still in its infancy, but I believe that we are in a good place with Google Cloud,” says Yeoh. “We are confident that we will be able to develop even more innovative applications as we expand into more blockchain and cryptocurrency applications built on Google Cloud with the support of Searce.”
Yeoh adds that he is keen to look into the machine learning capabilities of Google Cloud to see how it can be used to further augment the business. He also expresses interest in potentially using BigQuery to analyze data so the company can make more data-backed decisions in the long run. Yeoh says, "BigQuery is something we are definitely keen on looking into in the near future so that we can serve our customers better with data, changing lives in a positive and more informed way."
