Google Cloud results
- Reduces toll cost by 1% to 4% due to the ability to plan efficient delivery routes
- Monitors the movement of $560M of freight along the supply chain every month with little human intervention
- Easily scales to track more than 100,000 loads per customer account
Cuts cargo delivery, loading, and unloading time by 40%
Technology is changing how transportation companies work. For example, in-vehicle connectivity is rapidly becoming commonplace. McKinsey estimates that around 15% of vehicles globally are pre-installed with telematics, enabling cars to send and receive location data. Plug-in tracking devices easily integrate via a vehicle’s on-board diagnostic port.
“There’s a new generation of transportation entrepreneurs that are digital natives who like the convenience of managing logistics from their smartphones. Using Google Maps Platform as our mapping solution provides customers with the quality and familiar user interface they expect.”
—Luke Sequeira, founder and CEO, NumadicNumadic helps transportation companies maximize operational efficiency by combining telematics with real-time analysis of logistics data. The Numadic logistics monitoring dashboard provides customers with greater visibility into their supply chain, from tracking the movement of goods to analyzing gaps in the logistics process. Numadic works with Google Maps Platform to create a location-based solution that delivers rich maps and reliable navigation to customers.
“There’s a new generation of transportation entrepreneurs that are digital natives who like the convenience of managing logistics from their smartphones,” says Luke Sequeira, founder and CEO of Numadic. “Using Google Maps Platform as our mapping solution provides customers with the quality and familiar user interface they expect.”
“A major benefit of Google Maps Platform is real-time traffic data,” says Sequeira. “By accurately tracking all our customers’ vehicles, we help truckers avoid bottlenecks at warehouses and reduce wait time by 20 to 40%.”
—Luke Sequeira, founder and CEO, NumadicTo create an efficient supply chain, Numadic customers look at three elements. First, on-time delivery. Second, the delivery time. And finally, historical delivery information. Apart from the real-time dashboard view, customers can generate automated reports to identify delays caused by poor supply chain design.
“A major benefit of Google Maps Platform is real-time traffic data,” says Luke. “By accurately tracking all our customers’ vehicles, we help truckers avoid bottlenecks at warehouses and reduce wait time by 20% to 40%.”
With a comprehensive view of fleet movement, Numadic can predict where delays may occur and advise customers to stagger truck arrivals at warehouses to avoid wasted time and congestion.
From a risk management perspective, Numadic helps fleets gain lower insurance costs through real-time monitoring. With the driver’s consent, insurers and finance companies can track the movement of goods based on a vehicle’s location on Google Maps.
“If the goods are monitored constantly, there’s a lower chance of theft,” says Sequeira. “By combining real-world insights from Google Maps Platform with our software, we’re helping customers reduce their risks.” This reduction in risk is recognized by insurance providers, resulting in lower insurance premiums, reduced by as much as 1.5%.
Numadic started with Google Maps Platform as a direct customer. The company now works with Google Premier Partner Searce to manage Google Maps Platform usage.
“The Searce team is incredible to work with,” says Sequeira. “It makes our lives easier when we have questions about billing as well as how to optimize pricing with Google Maps Platform solutions.”
“Instead of distracting drivers with phone calls and text messages, customers can easily get arrival times and locate the trucks and cargo on Google Maps, at any given time.”
—Luke Sequeira, founder and CEO, NumadicReducing transportation costs with efficient route optimization
In the past, truckers planned their route and fuel stops for each delivery. When real-time traffic conditions occurred, they would make detours based on their best judgement. This manual process could result in unnecessary and extended routes. To help improve real-time routing while on the road, Numadic uses Routes to improve delivery accuracy and efficiency.
The Directions API provides the optimal route between waypoints, based on live traffic conditions. In the case of unexpected traffic conditions such as landslides, the Directions API provides truckers with alternative routes. The Distance Matrix API calculates travel distance and time so Numadic customers know when a truck is arriving at a warehouse.
“Instead of distracting drivers with phone calls and text messages, customers can easily get arrival times and locate the trucks and cargo on Google Maps, at any given time,” says Sequeira.
In terms of external data sources, Numadic works with the largest toll tag provider in India for insights into toll pricing.
“We integrate toll information with Google Maps Platform to help customers identify the quickest and most cost-efficient route,” says Sequeira. “Customers doing a lot of long-haul movement see as much as 4% drop in toll cost.”
Tracking vehicles on immersive maps on any device, at any time
Numadic uses the Maps SDK for Android, Maps SDK for iOS, and Maps JavaScript API to integrate interactive maps in the respective mobile and web applications. Users can pan and zoom in to view mapped locations on Numadic’s dashboard, regardless of their device.
In areas where GPS signals are weak or unavailable, Numadic uses the Snap to Roads feature in the Roads API to display a clear trajectory of the vehicle path. The Roads API aligns a vehicle’s route between two GPS coordinates to the closest road on Google Maps. Customers see an accurate visualization of a vehicle’s location, instead of an illogical route through obstructions such as mountains.
The Places API associates GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) with rich location details so Numadic customers can pinpoint the location of the vehicle. For example, if a trucker is delivering goods to a restaurant in New Delhi, India, the customer will see the restaurant name as the endpoint on their Numadic dashboard instead of somewhere in New Delhi, India.
Numadic customers can easily add places specific to their own business, such as “Loading Dock 38” in “Distribution Center A” on custom maps. It’s as simple as uploading a spreadsheet with addresses and driver data to visualize the data on a Google Map.
Channel partners such as Searce help customers with large-scale integration that involves hundreds of locations and data sources such as accounting and supply chain management software.
Scaling up with Google Maps Platform for global expansion
Google Maps Platform helps boost Numadic’s growth as the company expands beyond India to Canada, Germany, France, and Poland. Customers can track their assets on rich, accurate maps in more than 200 countries and territories.
“Our customers are moving more than 100,000 loads a month. Getting latitude and longitude information from telematics is pointless to them,” says Sequeira. “Using the Reverse Geocoding API, Numadic displays the GPS coordinates as user-friendly street addresses so customers can track the exact location of their vehicles, anywhere in the world.”
