Provides deep insights based on telecom data analytics

Data is at the heart of everything we do in the digital world. Across industries, organizations are looking to reach customers better by leveraging data to inform them of business outcomes, find new opportunities, and ultimately, boost their revenues. With this in mind, Eureka.ai, a leading analysis-as-a-software platform, was founded in 2016 to help provide businesses with curated telco data.

"Everytime someone uses their mobile phone on a network, they're sending out packets of data to the closest cell tower that captures where they are, and which digital services they are using. Fundamentally, what we do is take this huge slice of information, remove all Personal data, anonymize the users, aggregate the data, and turn it into insights for our customers. We can see changes in consumer behavior over time on a massive scale," says Michael Hawkins, Chief Data Officer at Eureka.

From marketing insights and advertising audience intelligence to digital services that support financial inclusion, such as risk scoring and income verification, Eureka provides a myriad of information based on mobile data, packaged to meet the individual needs of its customers. The company operates across various industries, with its largest customer base being ecommerce platforms, delivery platforms, payment services and banks, among others.

In 2022, Eureka deployed Google Cloud to host its front-end data with the launch of Omni, a market research platform, and Audience Explorer, an audience intelligence platform. The team is in the process of building a new end-to-end cloud architecture for a telco company in Indonesia, leveraging BigQuery and Dataproc, for storage and analysis.

Hawkins explains that Eureka's relationship with Google Cloud has always been two-ways. "On one hand, we're Google Cloud customers because we run part of our platform in the cloud, but on the other hand, we're also driving consumption for Google Cloud by providing the data intelligence to our data partners such as telecom operators," explains Hawkins. With Google Cloud, Eureka allows telco operators to offer their enterprise partners a highly scalable and privacy-secure suite of products that help them grow their digital business.

Building an interconnected infrastructure in the cloud to scale fast

As a startup back in 2016, Eureka built its infrastructure on data partner premises. However, Hawkins admits that while its servers were top notch back in the day, the organization is beginning to see downtimes.

"Improving our data analytics capabilities has been refreshing. Also, since migrating to Google Cloud, we've been able to significantly reduce downtime and outages compared to when we were on our on-prem solution."

Furthermore, with clients across the region, Eureka needed an agile infrastructure with the capability to integrate easily across various platforms. Although the company is mostly collaborating with partners on a commercial basis, it has plans for more technical integrations in the near future. Platform integration is key as it needs to be able to sync its data with customers' platforms. "We're a cloud agnostic company, but we're working a lot more with Google Cloud because of the way its platform is built, and how easy it is to integrate with other cloud platforms," says Hawkins.

Eureka uses a single backend database to support all of its products for efficiency and to provide a better user experience. Using BigQuery to run all of its data analytics, Eureka leverages the aggregation function to optimize its queries for quicker results. As a result, the company has been able to improve its speed and the efficiency of data analytics. "Improving our data analytics capabilities has been refreshing. Also, since migrating to Google Cloud, we've been able to significantly reduce downtime and outages compared to when we were on our on-prem solution," says Hawkins.

With Dataproc, Eureka has improved its speed of deployment for new applications as it does not require extensive setup. This also means that its DevOps team can scale quickly when required without worrying about additional setup on its infrastructure side.

As a whole, the organization has benefited from cost reductions since moving to Google Cloud. In particular, with BigQuery storage, Eureka has seen cost reductions of as much as 18%. Moving from self-hosted services to managed services on Google Cloud also provides the IT team with easier insight into its operations on a common dashboard, which makes managing and scaling its services much easier.

Tapping on a reputable brand for growth, visibility, and reliability

The benefits of moving to Google Cloud, according to Hawkins, goes beyond its technologies. As a fairly young organization, Eureka was more easily accepted and trusted because it runs on Google Cloud.

"Having the support of a big and dependable entity like Google Cloud makes a big difference, due to its well-built reputation over the years. Our customers trust us and Google Cloud has helped us scale and grow our reputation as great SME partners as well."

Despite being a data company, Eureka does not collect any PII data, which means it does not need to store its data in-country. However, moving its critical infrastructure data to the cloud has improved its server reliability and security as a whole due to the nature of the cloud architecture.

Building a smarter, more robust ecosystem with generative AI solutions

As an organization that provides data intelligence, AI is already built into Eureka's solutions. However, Eureka is already tapping on Vertex AI capabilities to build its back-end intelligence.

"We want to be as integrated as possible into the Google Cloud ecosystem. Ultimately, that means being seen as part of the same team, as we continue to build better solutions for our customers."

Michael Hawkins, Chief Marketing Officer, Eureka

"We're still developing some new projects on Vertex AI, but once we're ready I believe it will change our business model as we can work more directly with customers. For example, engineers can come to our platform to request specific information, and Vertex AI would be able to provide them with the customized data they need, analyzed in real time," Hawkins shares.

Eureka plans to continue its collaboration with Google Cloud for the long run with a goal to engage deeper with telcos across the region. "We want to be as integrated as possible into the Google Cloud ecosystem. Ultimately, that means being seen as part of the same team, as we continue to build better solutions for our customers," says Hawkins.
