Faster development of new services
Actinver is a Mexican company managing investments for individuals and corporations. Active in several Mexican states since 1994, it now has 170,000 customers and more than 2,000 employees.
One of the organization’s current goals is scaling the business as customer service quality increases. That is why Actinver decided to rely on Google Cloud’s tools and Amarello’s advice on cloud solution management.
As part of a strategic plan, Actinver expects to double the number of customers and increase the operational efficiency of its services in the next four years. It also seeks to create strategies enabling it to maintain a 100% active, 24/7 available service with the added value of tech innovation and guaranteed quality for its customer service.
Google Cloud has allowed Actinver to find a way to face those challenges without compromising operational effectiveness during the infrastructure change process. The first step was meeting one of the company’s main demands: improving adaptation to new systems by making integration with third parties easier and more agile.
“We started out with a hybrid infrastructure to scale 100% in the cloud. What’s interesting is that we were able to mix our existing tools with Google Cloud’s without overspending.”
—Engr. Alejandro Rodríguez Consejo, Deputy Director of Architecture, ActinverActinver was looking for a model to make app and API modernization more agile and deliver services together with third parties.
Google Cloud’s tools proved essential in the process of adopting a hybrid infrastructure that protects information and data, and maintains operational effectiveness as migration to the cloud begins.
Implementation challenges
The implementation process began in October 2020 with an initial phase that took about three months. During this period, Amarello’s support proved vital to understand the steps involved and also which Google Cloud tools best met the company’s needs.
“The main challenge was integrating the existing infrastructure with Google Cloud’s technology. But this was made possible by Actinver’s teams proving to be willing and receptive.”
—Mauricio Sánchez, Business Director, AmarelloIn a second phase, the adoption of Google Cloud’s tools required the on-premises implementation of Anthos to help Actinver deploy its platform in a scalable, robust microservice architecture.
This provided additional benefits, such as increased security, proactive monitoring of developments, and applying a modern disaster-recovery plan. Implementing Apigee as an API layer also made it possible to display services from backend core systems in a simple, secure, and scalable way.
As a result, the organization now has tools to control and manage the environment for the first time, thus reducing risks of potential issues. The ability to get management diagnostics in seconds not only allows Actinver to act quickly, but also predict anomalies.
Alejandro Rodríguez Consejo thinks automation has been crucial, as data analytics tools ensure components get tested and meet company standards.
The implementation of Google Cloud’s solutions has been successful, as these were integrated into the existing infrastructure. Business continuity was also maintained without hiccups throughout the migration to the cloud.
For the company, avoiding losses along the way is a major reason why this alliance not only delivers good results, but also why it can think about new projects for the future.
“Projects can get off the ground faster because we already have a set of tools making developments easier. As we already have many basic components providing a starting point for new projects, we do not need to start from scratch.”
—Engr. Alejandro Rodríguez Consejo, Deputy Director of Architecture, ActinverAs for the main benefits, Actinver found that modernizing its apps increases process effectiveness, improves service agility, and enhances team productivity.
Google Cloud’s solutions also allow the company to create scalable, microservice- and API-oriented architectures, increase automation for DevOps-oriented development processes, and improve development visibility and governance.
One of the main benefits was that, prior to implementing Google Cloud, 90% of the response time was consumed by transactional systems, whereas that number dropped to 10% using Apigee and Anthos.
Regarding platform security, Actinver trusts Config Management’s tools since they deliver centralized, consistent management. This also helps the company achieve granular control of components deployed in the infrastructure to ensure service continuity.
The company can also answer user queries faster and more assertively while delivering a better user experience.
Finally, with help from Firebase, they have improved the tracking of customer queries to provide them with the information they need.
Looking ahead, Actinver needs to keep working on building a consistent microservice development platform to achieve a 100% cloud environment. Consequently, the company is thinking about expanding its alliance with Amarello to add more Google Cloud tools that will enable more growth toward the cloud and scaling of the business.
