Automated processes and data analysis
Librodepases is a technology platform that smartly connects soccer players and agents with clubs to create new soccer development opportunities. The company employs 32 members of staff, operates in Argentina, and has users across Latin America, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
Since its launch in 2021, the company's aim has been to provide clubs and agents with accurate, and fast information on players, and also to give players access to a space where they can make themselves known, regardless of their location or status as professional or junior players.
Based on a cloud infrastructure, Librodepases has stood out from its competitors by always using artificial intelligence to help the right clubs meet the right players as soon as possible. Each club can view profiles with relevant information on sport performance, advanced statistics, transfer history, expectations, and other.
Data to make the team stronger
Today, Librodepases is the only company in the region offering direct contact between players and clubs, driven by the power of data. However, the previous technology they used made clubs dependent on manual processes to gather and analyze information.
This restricted the company's capacity to provide clubs, agents, and players with more and better opportunities, given a context in which millions of people around the world dream of becoming professional players and expanding their growth horizons.
For the clubs, things looked pretty much the same. Today, an institution may invest thousands of dollars in a junior player, and that player often transfers to other clubs because they lack opportunities. This translates into a zero return on investment, which could have been avoided with a management tool to leverage each player's potential and keep them on the payroll.
The challenge of addressing the financial cost clubs face of losing income and the social cost of scant opportunities for players led Librodepases to commit to considerable technological innovation in partnership with Google Cloud.
Supported by the technological partner aeros, Librodepases decided to develop an AI-based recommendation model to show clubs more accurate profiles, and also an automated data gathering and analysis structure to better understand user needs.
A change for the win
Replacing their previous cloud provider with Google Cloud technology motivated Librodepases to scale and speed up their business model.
With the support of Looker, the company managed to create reports in minutes, including information such as player objectives, available opportunities, how many clubs were checking player profiles, most-searched profiles, and more. Not only did it help find the best opportunities for players, it also enabled clubs to make better decisions based on these data and to secure a higher return on their investment.
Deploying BigQuery's fully managed, serverless data warehouse also proved essential to develop models and visualize the team's internal data and to automate dashboard creation processes and reporting. Finally, Librodepases also implemented Cloud Storage solutions to store unstructured data, as well as Cloud Composer and Compute Engine to orchestrate workflows and execute virtual machines.
"Google Cloud technology is fully aligned with the business goals of Librodepases as it solves a key issue: The synergy between player data and club data. As a result, we can offer a higher added value and focus on expanding other aspects of the business."
—Camila Manera Schor, Chief Data Officer, LibrodepasesRecommendations that level up the game
Once Librodepases migrated its infrastructure to Google Cloud, the results were promising, mainly in terms of infrastructure costs, scalability, process automation, and more efficient reporting.
The major impact Google Cloud has had on the startup's business model is undoubtedly the development of its machine learning-based recommendation model. This model now helps clubs find the exact match for the players they are looking for in only three seconds.
Other huge benefits are process automation and time optimization. Manually accessing the data of hundreds of thousands of soccer players in Latin America would have been impossible. With Google Cloud, and especially with Looker, clubs can access an incredible scale of data quickly and accurately.
Furthermore, the company has managed to save 10,000 dollars with the deployment of Google Cloud solutions and bring query execution times down from 119 to 4 seconds. The company also managed to develop dashboards and create reports in under 10 minutes, receiving over 5,000 views, while databases were consulted five times more, on average, per user.
"As soon as a club signs into the app, our recommendation model displays the players who best match the club's profile. That's how a player can be hired in a matter of seconds, while the club saves thousands of hours on searching."
—Camila Manera Schor, Chief Data Officer, LibrodepasesKeep the ball rolling
The empowerment artificial intelligence and data give Librodepases today translates into strategies to open new markets and expansion plans based on Google Cloud technology.
As part of this process, the company is thinking about migrating their frontend and backend to Google Cloud and completing artificial vision projects with Vertex AI. Its partner aeros is also continuing to work with the company to further scale its infrastructure and take new features to the market.
Consequently, the team at Librodepases has managed to free up management time in IT tasks and focus on what really matters: Providing more and better growth opportunities for players, clubs, and agents through technology.
"We've helped Librodepases build an ML model that reinforces the app’s recommendation engine. We’re not talking about a product here. We're talking about people, and the goal is for the startup to help each player and club find what they really need."
