Google Cloud results

  • Scalability increase for internal and external activities
  • Higher integration and modernization of work teams
  • Release of IT personnel to focus on strategic projects
  • 30% reduction in IT infrastructure costs

On their journey to digital transformation, retail companies work to digitalize their operations and use the data generated to obtain business insights, therefore improving daily activities, services, and user experiences. The adoption of cloud technology has been one of the most searched-for alternatives to evolve in this regard. In accordance with IDC, it is expected that, in 2022, more than 50% of companies in Latin America will be managing their data in the cloud.

Not only individual stores and large retailers, but also shopping mall chains, which manage whole trade logistics on their own, are resorting to the cloud to grow their businesses. In this sense, Ancar Ivanhoe, one the leading companies in the shopping malls management industry, has held, for many years, an outstanding position in terms of dynamism and scalability for the delivery of results, supported by technology innovations.

In 2012, and with the aim to digitize its internal processes and adapt products addressed to frequent customers, the company decided to resort to the cloud, not only by incorporating Google Workspace, the collaborative applications suite from Google Cloud, but also by migrating its data processed in physical data centers to Google Cloud.

At first, the company was looking for a partner that could help the company along its innovation journey, besides from providing more collaborative digital tools to its employees. Upon the adoption of Google Workspace, there was an increase in internal productivity and higher mobility. Moreover, teams grew closer as they started to use tools such as Meet or Gmail for internal and external communications.

Projects involving the cloud

As years went by, several projects by Ancar were developed with cloud technology, including a big data project which gathered information from different sources, such as the company’s own Wi-Fi service. When cross-matching the analyzed data with the browsing data from the users, and once they accepted the terms of use and privacy policy for the use of the company’s Wi-Fi network, it was possible to send customized content to customers via SMS as soon as they arrived at the shopping malls of the group.

Among the needs of Ancar, scalability was a strong and decisive issue when selecting a cloud services provider. The company also applies a multi-cloud model, where it chooses the service that better satisfies certain needs. Thanks to Google Cloud, the company developed an application so that purchasers could register their tickets in exchange for promotional vouchers during the 2018 holiday season, with no queues at all. Even with a high number of accesses, the cloud’s elasticity ensured the success of the initiative.

Supported by Google Cloud and IPNET, Ancar was able to develop big data and AI projects to assist customers.

“The basic element we were looking for was scalability, which we found in Google Cloud. Thanks to this service, we obtained greater flexibility: whenever an area has a more urgent matter, we can put ourselves into action rapidly.”

Fernando Wanderley, General IT Manager, Ancar Ivanhoe

An alliance towards innovation

In 2017, Ancar began to receive support from IPNET, a firm that helps other companies along their digital transformation journey to the cloud, by centralizing contacts and managing solutions provided by Google Cloud. Since then, IPNET has been working so that the shopping malls group could achieve its innovative goals before the market and its customers.

“Our challenge was to continue ongoing works and projects, apart from furnishing new ideas based on the insights obtained from data generated by Ancar. Up to now, our alliance has proved to be very productive and encouraging, and we managed to develop programs which have a positive impact on the company, both internally and externally.”

Fabio Carneiro, CEO, IPNET

Looking into the future

Among the projects currently being developed by Ancar, with the help of IPNET and Google Cloud, is a new application which employs big data, aimed at improving the location of stores at the shopping malls. This new feature will perform an intelligent scanning of the available physical spaces and will indicate the best arrangement for a store at a certain location. Such scanning will be based on the company’s data history, in which errors and hits were duly mapped, and on the company’s solid experience.
