Higher data processing speed

Tegra is a residential homebuilder and urban development company focusing on high-end, high-impact projects in the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Throughout its history, the organization has undertaken developments that have marked milestones and transformed regions, highlighting its concerns about urban life quality.

Throughout its 45 years of expertise in the local market, the company has built over 26 million square meters and developed over 106,000 properties. Now, it has approximately one thousand employees.

As a company that is always on the lookout for modern processes and a better use of tech resources, Tegra has defined its journey to align these expectations with better operational cost-benefit ratios.

This also relates to the company's SAP systems: SAP ECC 6.0 and SAP CRM. Both modules help the organization manage different areas, simplifying internal processes and optimizing employee performance.

Although the company was using another provider's cloud services, the IT team noticed that, as operations had grown, changes had to be implemented to improve scalability and reduce costs. Therefore, it decided to transform its SAP infrastructure into a multi-cloud environment, supported by Google Cloud.

"Our goal was to increase the quality of our services and identify features to grow even further. We chose Google Cloud because it offered more flexibility, as well as the possibility to unlock new strategies and simplify development."

Dado Amaral, IT General Manager, Tegra

SAP migration opens up a new era

The support of Google Cloud's engineering, technical, and development teams was crucial throughout migration, which involved the Quality (QA) and Development (DEV) environments and related databases. The company gained more security at critical points, especially when switching environments from a different service provider.

"The onboarding process was excellent. We managed to monitor the entire migration and separate the networks. With Google Cloud, we also increased disk capacity without necessarily expanding processor capacity. Thanks to a lower latency, based on VPN connections, we obtained good response times with no downtime at all."

Mauricio Baise, IT & Cybersecurity Manager, Tegra

Tegra's journey kicked off in the first half of 2022 and was completed within six months. Now, QA and DEV environments from SAP systems run on Compute Engine virtual machines.

The flexible, virtual architecture has become a huge differential, enabling the company to rightsize machines as it grows and also to adapt its infrastructure to meet workload fluctuations.

Leveraging advantages and drafting plans

Since this new Google Cloud era started, Tegra has achieved excellent results. Costs have been significantly reduced, as the company was able to optimize resource usage based on demand. Paying for a dedicated link to connect to the cloud environment—a requirement with the other provider—was also no longer necessary.

The desired granular scalability is now a reality. The company also gained other benefits, including higher data processing speed, higher quality and speed in the development environment, and the possibility of using cloud resources more intelligently.

"The copy process from production to the quality environment is a highlight. Previously, it took around three whole days, but now it only takes 24 hours at most in Google Cloud. This was both a performance and system usability gain."

Alexandre Coelho, Systems Manager, Tegra

All these advantages increased team productivity, reducing work time and streamlining deliveries. As a result, migrating Production environments with both SAP modules is now part of the company plans, and will be carried out in 2023.

From now on, the company wants to explore Google Cloud's data analytics resources further, aiming to deploy tests in the future for its data environment. Tegra's goal is to collect more insights and promote internal policy changes. Looker and BigQuery have been initially chosen to meet this challenge.
