Avocados Don Goyo is a Mexican company focusing on the production, packaging, and sale of fresh Hass avocado internationally. It employs around 2,000 staff and has two main plants in Michoacán and a distribution center in Puebla. Today the company is one of the top five exporters to Asian markets, offering products that exceed customers' expectations.
In a demanding market influenced by several factors, such as weather, diseases, and seasonal supply peaks, Avocados Don Goyo focuses on strengthening its presence in the domestic market while seeking to expand its share in the international domain.
As a result of integrating all its business units, the company maintains competitive prices in Mexico and other countries to provide high-quality products throughout the year and across countries with state-of-the-art technology and specialized SAP-based processes.
Leaving on-prem infrastructures behind
The main driver behind the company's digital transformation was the need to protect its data from inclement weather and recurring power outages. As the company's servers were located in rural areas, every stormy day was stressful for employees, who feared damage to equipment and a subsequent data loss.
Access to SAP depended completely on weather conditions, which prevented the company from properly managing operations and rolling out new business opportunities.
As a company constantly seeking scalability and international expansion, relying solely on on-premises infrastructure was no longer an option. Avocados Don Goyo needed to move towards agile cloud technology, which is immune to inclement weather and provides full availability of its SAP systems.
The company consulted its IT partner EON about the process of migrating SAP to Google Cloud. This transition required the design of an architecture that would not only support and improve current operations but would also be ready to scale according to future business needs.
In addition to the company's concerns about backups in case of weather-related incidents, there was some level of uncertainty about the use of cloud technologies. EON's role was critical to convey confidence about data availability and security when migrating SAP to Google Cloud.
Thanks to its partner's support, Avocados Don Goyo planned a migration process that would enable the company to perform a wide variety of tasks more simply and at a lower cost.

With scalability as a target, Avocados Don Goyo decided to migrate its SAP systems to Google Cloud. The process took 21 days and it was easier because the company had the latest SAP S/4HANA versions.
From the very beginning, the goal was to enable the company to operate autonomously, and so the necessary support was provided to make this happen. Self-service in all IT resources became the main differentiator of this migration: an on-prem implementation would have involved a significant investment of time and money.
Based on the deployment of Compute Engine, Cloud Storage and Cloud VPN, supported by EON at all times, the company managed to create a target architecture and a migration plan, including configuring the Google Cloud console and VMs.
Consequently, Avocados Don Goyo was able to implement SAP in the cloud to better manage its operations.

Deploying Google Cloud optimized several business areas for Avocados Don Goyo. In addition to its SAP systems having stable latency and being continuously available, more agile, and simpler, mirror backups of data are distributed in several locations, which reduces the risk of data loss due to weather conditions.
Now the company always has a storage media to rely on in case of downtime.
In addition, the possibility of having servers in the cloud made it possible to obtain significant savings on operating and support costs, and also freed up work time in other areas, allowing the company to focus on developing innovative and sustainable export products without sacrificing quality. By being in the cloud, the company's possibilities for geographic expansion have now multiplied.
Finally, thanks to Google Cloud's support, the company can get sales data analytics metrics, in real time and from anywhere, to make better business decisions.
