Higher scalability and cost optimization

iTBAF is an Argentine company providing value-added services for the IT and gaming industries. With customers across Latin America, the organization offers a subscription-based catalog including VR and AR games, web games, mobile apps, and more.

Headquartered in Argentina with a branch in Mexico City, iTBAF currently has over 20 employees that focus on providing a one-of-a-kind digital entertainment platform to people of all ages.

In a multi-player market, iTBAF’s main differential lies in the services it provides, featuring competitive prices and a full catalog of games, for which subscriptions are on the rise. The company’s ongoing communication strategy keeps users informed and engaged at all times through company news.

Pursuing an engaging mobile experience

As nearly all iTBAF’s customers rely on mobile devices to use its platform, the company faced the huge challenge of ensuring they could access its game catalog whatever their device or location.

A robust and scalable environment was a must; however, its former cloud provider’s services made infrastructure maintenance harder and generated issues that required an expert working round the clock to solve them.

That’s why iTBAF asked partner aeros to help migrate and upgrade its container clusters and infrastructure to Google Cloud. Besides the credits Google Cloud gave to contribute to the migration process, aeros’s support in the areas of training, usability, technical goals, and cost optimization was crucial to drive cloud adoption.

"In our quest to provide a better experience to mobile users, we found in Google Cloud and aeros the perfect partners that supported us along the way."

Working in tandem to overcome challenges

Thanks to Google Cloud and aeros, iTBAF managed to go from an inefficient cloud infrastructure, in terms of performance and costs, to a new, more optimized architecture that is efficient, robust, and maximizes resources when running applications.

Throughout the implementation process, which took almost a year, Google Kubernetes Engine was key, as it enabled the company to scale up, increase flexibility, and reduce costs for all then-current services. Using one node for backend and another for frontend also allowed the organization to double its backup options and to have several hosts in place for any potential downtime.

The company also adopted Artifact Registry, for docker implementation, Cloud SQL, for database instance migration, and Cloud Build, for service development using a serverless CI/CD platform. All this helped the team automate app updates and gain better control when it comes to user-facing matters.

"We worked in tandem with iTBAF throughout the Google Cloud deployment process, upgrading the cloud infrastructure to match the highest industry standards. As a result, Google Kubernetes Engine was adopted as efficiently as possible."

Enhancements across levels

Adopting Google Cloud solutions brought significant benefits to iTBAF’s business model, including the availability of tools with a shorter learning curve so that teams could better understand the infrastructure and architecture.

Cost optimization was yet another enormous advantage. With the previous cloud provider, infrastructure maintenance costs amounted to USD 4.8k per month and it was hard to identify resource wasting. After aeros and Google Cloud’s implementation, this cost was cut to USD 2.8k per month, a reduction of +40%.

Scalability improvements were also remarkable. The organization was able to overcome its previous latency and traffic challenges, which led to system bottlenecks and service disruptions. Today, there are new tools to scale up and achieve higher traffic flexibility.

Thanks to the support of aeros and Google Cloud experts deeply familiar with each tool and solution implemented, issues are now solved faster, and enhancing infrastructure performance, stability, and security has been easier.

"Transformation driven by Google Cloud has improved iTBAF’s operations. Today, we can focus on empowering other areas that provide added value, leading to a better experience for our thousands of platform users."

Miguel Díaz, Head of IT, iTBAF

More and better entertainment for the future

Excellent results achieved with Google Cloud solutions have led iTBAF to consider adopting other tools, such as Pub/Sub, for queuing and subscription; BigQuery, for implementing a new data warehouse; and Security Command Center, for reinforcing security and risk management in the platform.

The company has also started to focus on new business strategies and service deployments, as certain tasks, such as system scalability checks, traffic, and database updating and monitoring, have now been automated using cloud solutions.

Today, iTBAF is still working with aeros and Google Cloud on a new service support proposal so that the company can keep implementing enhancements, optimizations, and new requirements to take user experience to the next level.

"iTBAF led a successful transformation and innovation journey together with aeros. We’ll continue working with long-term goals to strengthen this continuous improvement process and keep optimizing the company’s infrastructure," says José Ignacio R. Pinto, CTO of aeros.
