Apps are the face of the modern company, but as the building blocks of our digital world, they’re also a prime target for attackers. According to a 2021 AppSec Stats Flash report from WhiteHat Security, more than 40 percent of applications are actively leaking data, potentially exposing sensitive information.
In today's coding environment, keeping such vulnerabilities at bay is a growing challenge. Security issues become more complex as software development accelerates and businesses use agile models to deploy more apps, faster. The result? Traditional application security tools can't effectively improve a company's security posture – because risks don't stem from a single code change or misconfiguration, but from an intricate combination of multiple factors. That's where Apiiro comes in.
Security born and raised in the cloud
Apiiro is a new kind of AppSec platform. It helps businesses break down barriers between security and developers. Created by co-founders Yonatan Eldar and Idan Plotnik, who experienced the expansion of security needs first-hand when their previous startup saw massive growth, Apiiro helps businesses remediate critical risks in cloud-native applications. With specialized dashboards, development and security teams gain comprehensive visibility into their assets and repositories. They can then identify and remediate risks quickly, both on-premises and in the cloud.
Born and raised in the cloud, Apiiro was built on distributed microservices from the start. Speed of development was top of mind for the founders, and one of the main reasons that Apiiro decided to select Google Cloud. "We experimented with all the major vendors, and what stood out about Google Cloud was its ease of use," says Eldar, Apiiro's Chief Technology Officer. "That starts with the fact that we can use Google Workspace to authenticate and easily access all the Google Cloud tools and attribute the right permissions to everyone. The platform is incredibly well organized, which is a major plus."

During the implementation phase, the Apiiro team enlisted support from Google Cloud partner DoiT International to help optimize their Google Cloud environment. "The DoiT International team was really responsive in hearing us out, connecting us with the right people, and troubleshooting issues during implementation," says Eldar. Apiiro now uses Google Kubernetes Engine to run its workflows in containers and securely stores its container images in Container Registry.
After more than three years of use, Eldar gave top marks to the reliability of Google Cloud: "For Apiiro as a business, uptime is one of our most important metrics. Because we are multi-cloud and multi-region, we're resilient. But any downtime, even within the parameters defined by Service Level Agreements, can hurt our reputation and prevent our customers from achieving the value we need to deliver. High availability isn't just a prerequisite for a good customer experience, it's also a key KPI for developer productivity and satisfaction. This will help Apiiro reach an even bigger audience.
