AgroGalaxy is a Brazilian retail platform focused on agribusiness. The company operates in several areas, including the sale of agri-inputs, seed production, origination, grain storage and sales, and the provision of agricultural services.
With units in 14 states, covering over a thousand cities, AgroGalaxy has an integrated ecosystem of industry-related brands and organizations. In mid-2023, the company already had 169 stores, including light stores, 28 silos, three company-owned soybean plants, and 10 outsourced seed production units.
After growing as a result of several M&A processes, AgroGalaxy had ended up with a large volume of data from several sources. Consequently, the team began to consider alternatives that may offer more synergy for platform management purposes. Previously, the company had used several ERPs and CRMs to control and manage business units; however, it was now clear that processes needed to be unified.
AgroGalaxy then started to work on a project aimed at simplifying and standardizing administrative processes, including the use of SAP to centralize all business management tasks. Google Cloud was also chosen as a service provider to support SAP.
"We used an on-premise environment and independent structures that didn't communicate with each other. Merging SAP and Google Cloud meant we could leverage the benefits and advanced features from integrating both platforms, especially for seed distribution and processing, two business units that rely heavily on technology."
—Diogo Vasconcellos, CIO, AgroGalaxyA cycle of learnings and transformations
Thanks to the support provided by Google Cloud to deploy SAP S/4HANA, the team could access technical documentation to streamline the process. RISE with SAP, offered by SAP to support the deployment and execution of this system on the cloud, was the solution chosen to ensure reliability.
Through RISE with SAP, SAP and Google Cloud are committed to simplifying app migration to the cloud, thus minimizing risks and costs, with a quick time-to-ROI. This partnership enabled AgroGalaxy to reach the expected autonomy level to thrive throughout its transformation.
SAP S/4HANA started running on Google Cloud's Compute Engine in August 2022, covering one of the company's business units (BUs). From then on, the team experienced an improved IT performance and better stability levels than ever before, and other environments were also migrated to Google Cloud.
"We migrated from a scenario with flexibility and performance restrictions to a high-availability, high-performance environment enabled by Google Cloud. All this provided more scalability during operational peaks, which are commonplace in harvest periods."
—Diogo Vasconcellos, CIO, AgroGalaxyThe path to nurture growth
Implementing SAP S/4HANA on Google Cloud through RISE with SAP also changed the way AgroGalaxy's development and IT teams work: they can now perform multiple tasks more efficiently. This is because less time is needed to run processes, collecting and tracking data is more streamlined, and data governance has improved.
Reliability, security, and performance gains were other benefits leveraged by the company, together with easy-to-use resources with no system slowdowns. It is now possible to work on SAP connectivity environments with no downtime.
"Integrations are quick, and this differentiating factor drives certain business initiatives. Availability was already high with our previous on-premise environment, but today, besides operating at almost 100%, we have also eliminated potential performance bottlenecks. The fact that we can obtain data in real time evidences how far we have come."
—Diogo Vasconcellos, CIO, AgroGalaxyBesides expected rollouts in other BUs, AgroGalaxy is planning to advance even further. The team is assessing artificial intelligence solutions to identify resources that help improve another specific feature: data accuracy. This goal is part of the company's pipeline to continue on its cloud journey.
