GPU regions and zones

Compute Engine resources are hosted in multiple locations worldwide. These locations are composed of regions and zones. For more information, see Regions and zones.

Each zone offers a variety of GPU models and VMs can only use the GPUs available in that zone. GPUs are supported for N1 general-purpose, A3, A2, and G2 accelerator-optimized machine types.

Each accelerator-optimized machine type has a specific model of NVIDIA GPUs attached.

  • For A3 accelerator-optimized machine types, NVIDIA H100 80GB GPUs are attached. These are available in the following options:
    • A3 Standard: H100 80GB
    • A3 Mega: H100 80GB Mega
  • For A2 accelerator-optimized machine types, NVIDIA A100 GPUs are attached. These are available in the following options:
    • A2 Standard: A100 40GB
    • A2 Ultra: A100 80GB
  • For G2 accelerator-optimized machine types, NVIDIA L4 GPUs are attached.

For VMs that use N1 machine types, you can attach T4, P4, P100 or V100 GPUs to the VM during, or after VM creation.

For example in asia-east1-a, you can create an N1 general purpose VM and attach either T4, V100, or P100 GPUs, but not a P4 GPU. In asia-east1-a, you can also create a G2 accelerator-optimized VMs that automatically has L4 GPUs attached to the VM, but not an A2 accelerator-optimized VM with their A100 80GB GPUs attached.

The following sortable table lets you select different options to see where GPU resources are available. You can search either by location or GPU machine type, or a combination of both.

Programmatically view GPU regions and zones

You can also view the available regions and zones for GPUs by using gcloud CLI or REST. Similar to the previous table, you can use filters with these commands to restrict the list of results to specific GPU models or accelerator-optimized machine types. Limitations

For A2 Standard machine types, the a2-megagpu-16g machine is only available in the following regions and zones:

  • Iowa, North America: us-central1-a,b,c,f
  • Netherlands, Europe: europe-west4-a,b
  • Singapore, APAC: asia-southeast1-c

Local SSD availability by GPU regions and zones

Local SSD disks are available as follows for each GPU machine type:

  • A3 Mega and A3 Standard: Local SSD disks are automatically attached to VMs in all the available A3 regions and zones.

  • G2: Local SSD disks are supported in all the available G2 regions and zones.

  • A2 Ultra: Local SSD disks are automatically attached to VMs in all the available A2 Ultra regions and zones.

  • A2 Standard: Local SSD disks are supported in all the available A2 Standard regions and zones.

  • N1+T4: Local SSD disks are supported in all the available N1+T4 regions and zones.

  • N1+V100: Local SSD disks are supported in most of the available N1+V100 regions and zones with the exception of the following:

    • us-east1-c

  • N1+P100: Local SSD disks are supported in all the available N1+P100 regions and zones.

  • N1+P4: Local SSD disks are only supported in zones us-central1-c and northamerica-northeast1-b.
