This page describes the Summarization - Conditions API additional terms, intended usage, and cautions.
Additional terms
The Summarization - Conditions API is generally available (GA) to a limited group of Cloud Early Access Customers for testing. This release focuses on exploring and validating conditions-related use cases. The model is still improving and isn't guaranteed to be released.
The Summarization - Conditions API supports compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and/or any amendments or regulations under HIPAA. You may use the Summarization - Conditions API to transmit, store, or process health information subject to HIPAA.
Healthcare restrictions: Neither you nor your end users may use generative AI services for any of the following:
- Clinical purposes
- As a substitute for professional medical advice
- In any manner subject to regulations or requiring clearance or approval from any applicable regulatory authority
These restrictions don't apply to non-clinical research, scheduling, or other administrative tasks.
The Summarization - Conditions API hasn't been designed or developed to be used as a medical device. The output of the model or models isn't considered final, and only provides a draft response. A Healthcare Professional (HCP) should verify any output, and no direct diagnosis should be claimed.
Cautions
Due to the nature of LLMs and Generative AI, the generated output might not always be reliable. The summary output, or condition brief, might contain incorrect or biased clinical information, such as stereotypes or other harmful content, and should be reviewed.
Evaluate the Summarization - Conditions API independently for the following:
- To address specific population use cases.
- To assess risk.
- To implement risk mitigations and test the model for safety, equity, and equality.
The Summarization - Conditions API has only been evaluated for use in the English language and for use cases in the US medical system. For use in other languages, contact your Google Cloud account team.
Intended use
The intended uses of the Summarization - Conditions API are as follows:
- To help developers of healthcare IT applications identify and summarize patient conditions.
- Using machine learning, the Summarization - Conditions API extracts clinical information from unstructured notes. The Summarization - Conditions API operates on clinical content provided by application developers. These application developers are responsible for determining the appropriate integration and monitoring of this clinical content within their systems.
- To complement electronic health records (EHR) and clinical decision support products.
The Summarization - Conditions API doesn't provide medical advice, professional medical or healthcare opinions, medical diagnosis or treatment. The Summarization - Conditions API doesn't replace providing professional healthcare to any individual as would be offered by a professional healthcare provider, nor does it replace the clinical judgment of a treating healthcare professional.
