    Enable billing

Create a bucket

  1. Open the Cloud Storage browser in the Google Cloud Platform Console.
    Open the Cloud Storage browser
  2. Click CREATE BUCKET.
  3. Enter a unique Name for your bucket.
    • Do not include sensitive information in the bucket name, because the bucket namespace is global and publicly visible.
  4. Choose Multi-Regional for Storage class.
  5. Choose United States for Location.
  6. Click Create.

That's it — you've just created a Cloud Storage bucket!

Upload an object into the bucket

To upload the screenshot above into your new bucket:

  1. Right-click on the image above and download it to your computer.
  2. In the Cloud Storage browser, click on the bucket that you created.
  3. Click UPLOAD FILES.
  4. In the file dialog, navigate to the file that you downloaded and select it.

After the upload completes, you should see the file name, size, type, and last modified date in the bucket.

Download and display an object

Try these ways of interacting with the objects from the Cloud Storage browser:

  1. Right-click the file and select the option to save it.
  2. Click on the file to view it in your browser.

Share an object publicly

To create a publicly accessible URL for the file:

  1. Select the checkbox in the Shared publicly column for the file.
  2. Click the Public link that is displayed next to the checkbox, wait for the object to load in a new browser window, and note the object's shareable URL in the browser's address bar.

You should see that the object is publicly accessible at a URL that looks like:
https://storage.googleapis.com/<your-bucket-name>/quickstart-console.png

To stop sharing the file publicly:

  1. Clear the checkbox in the Shared publicly column for the file.
  2. Reload the URL from the step above to verify that it's no longer publicly accessible.

Create folders

  1. Click CREATE FOLDER.
  2. Enter folder1 for Name and click Create.

You should see the folder in the bucket with an image of a folder icon to distinguish it from objects.

Create a subfolder and upload a file to it:

  1. Click folder1.
  2. Click CREATE FOLDER.
  3. Enter folder2 for Name and click Create.
  4. Click folder2.
  5. Click UPLOAD FILES.
  6. In the file dialog, navigate to the screenshot that you downloaded and select it.
  7. After the upload completes, select the checkbox Share publicly next to the file.
  8. Click the Public link that is displayed next to the checkbox, wait for the object to load in a new browser window, and note the object's shareable URL in the browser's address bar.

You should see that the object is publicly accessible at a URL that contains the folder names in the path:
https://storage.googleapis.com/<your-bucket-name>/folder1/folder2/quickstart-console.png

Delete objects

  1. Click the Buckets link to return to the Buckets level.
  2. Select the bucket.
  3. Select the checkbox next to folder1.
  4. Click on the icon of the trash can.
  5. Click OK to permanently delete the folder and all objects and subfolders in it.
