You can shut down a notebook instance to stop any processing for the instance or to delete the instance. Once you've shut down your instance, you won't incur any charges unless your instance has persistent disks attached. To stop being charged for an instance with disks attached, delete the notebook instance in addition to shutting it down. For more information see pricing.
To shut down a notebook instance, follow these steps:
Go to the AI Platform Notebooks page in the Google Cloud Console.
Select Open JupyterLab for the instance that you want to open.
It is important to stop all running processes in case there are operations that need to complete before you shut down your notebook instance. For example, I/O processes that are writing to disk.
To stop all running processes:
Select the Running Terminals and Kernels tab to show all of the processes running.
Click Shutdown next to each running process.
Close the browser tab or window for your notebook instance.
Return to the AI Platform Notebooks page in the Google Cloud Console.
Select the instance that you want to shut down, and then select Stop.
