Note that disabling\n soft delete increases the risk of data loss by accidental or\n malicious deletion.\n\n - Buckets whose soft delete costs equate to over 50% of your total\n Cloud Storage costs per month.\n\n - Buckets whose costs total to at least $20.00 USD.\n\n| **Note:** Costs are calculated based on the assumption that a bucket costs $0.02 per GB per month. A generic value is chosen because at runtime the true price calculated from the SKU is unknown.\n\nPricing\n\nFor information on Recommender pricing, see the\n[Recommender pricing page](/recommender/pricing#recommender-pricing).\n\nConsiderations\n\n- Soft delete recommender provides a maximum of 100 recommendations per project, covering both enabling and disabling soft delete.\n\nBefore you begin\n\nBefore using Recommendation Hub recommendations, complete the\nfollowing requirements.\n\nEnable the Recommender API\n\n[Enable the API](https://console.cloud.google.com/flows/enableapi?apiid=recommender.googleapis.com&_ga=2.205605267.1609030456.1726769609-1360967596.1726769609)\n\nRequired roles\n\n\nTo get the permissions that\nyou need to view recommendations in the Recommendation Hub,\n\nask your administrator to grant you the\n\n\n[Storage Admin](/iam/docs/roles-permissions/storage#storage.admin) (`roles/storage.admin`)\nIAM role on the project.\n\n\nThis predefined role contains\n\nthe permissions required to view recommendations in the Recommendation Hub. To see the exact permissions that are\nrequired, expand the **Required permissions** section:\n\n\nRequired permissions\n\nThe following permissions are required to view recommendations in the Recommendation Hub:\n\n- `recommender.storageBucketSoftDeleteInsights.get`\n- `recommender.storageBucketSoftDeleteInsights.list`\n- `recommender.storageBucketSoftDeleteInsights.update`\n- `recommender.storageBucketSoftDeleteRecommendations.get`\n- `recommender.storageBucketSoftDeleteRecommendations.list`\n- `recommender.storageBucketSoftDeleteRecommendations.update`\n\nView soft delete recommendations\n\nYou can view soft delete recommendations using the\n[Recommendation Hub](/recommender/docs/recommendation-hub/find-recommnedation-hub). Cloud Storage provides\nrecommendations to enable soft delete for buckets that don't yet\nhave soft delete enabled, as well as recommendations to disable\nsoft delete for buckets that have soft delete enabled.\n\n1. In the Google Cloud console, go to the **Recommendation Hub**.\n\n [Go to Recommendations](https://console.cloud.google.com/home/recommendations)\n2. In the **All recommendations** menu, click **All recommendations**.\n\n3. In the **All recommendations** page, the Recommendation Hub\n displays the following soft delete recommendations:\n\n - **Disable Soft delete**\n\n - **Enable Soft delete**\n\n Use the instructions in the following sections to disable or enable\n soft delete on buckets within your project\n based on Recommender recommendations.\n\nView recommendation to disable soft delete\n\nTo view the recommendation for disabling soft delete in the\nRecommendation Hub, use the following instructions.\n\n1. In the Recommendation Hub, in the **All recommendations** page,\n click **Disable Soft delete**.\n\n2. In the **Insight** page, the recommendation displays the following\n information:\n\n - **Bucket name**: the name of the bucket Recommender\n recommends disabling soft delete for.\n\n - **Current retention days**: the current soft delete\n retention duration of the bucket's soft delete policy.\n\n - **Recommended retention days** : the recommended retention duration to set\n your soft delete policy to. Any buckets that receive the\n recommendation to disable soft delete show the recommended\n retention days as **0 days**.\n\n - **Cost savings**: the estimated amount of savings per month on your\n project after disabling soft delete.\n\n3. To proceed with disabling the soft delete policy based on the\n Recommender's recommendations, click\n **View soft delete policy**.\n\n The **Bucket details** page displays.\n4. In the **Protection** tab, under\n **soft delete policy (for data recovery)** ,\n click **Disable** to disable soft delete on the bucket.\n\n Cloud Storage disables soft delete policy on the bucket. To\n learn more about how to edit a bucket's soft delete policy,\n including re-enabling a soft delete policy, see\n [Edit a bucket's soft delete policy](/storage/docs/use-soft-delete#manage-policy).\n\nView recommendation to enable soft delete\n\nTo view the Recommender recommendation for enabling\nsoft delete in the Recommendation Hub, use\nthe following instructions:\n\n1. In the Recommendation Hub, in the **All recommendations** page,\n Click **Enable Soft delete**.\n\n2. In the **Insight** page, the recommendation displays the following\n information:\n\n - **Bucket name**: the name of the bucket in your project\n Recommender recommends enabling soft delete for.\n\n - **Current retention days** : the current soft delete retention\n duration on your bucket. For buckets with soft delete already\n disabled, the Recommendation Hub displays **0 days**.\n\n - **Recommended retention days** : the recommended number of days to set your\n soft delete policy to. For enabling soft delete,\n Recommender recommends setting your bucket's\n soft delete policy to the minimum retention duration of\n **7 days**.\n\n - **Additional cost**: the projected cost for enabling soft delete,\n which is adjusted to increase by no more than 10% of your total\n monthly Cloud Storage costs.\n\n3. To proceed with enabling the soft delete policy based on the\n Recommender's recommendations, click\n **View soft delete policy**.\n\n The **Bucket details** page displays.\n4. In the **Protection** tab, under\n **soft delete policy (for data recovery)** ,\n click **Edit** and enter the recommended soft delete\n retention duration. Or, if the bucket has never had a soft delete\n configured before, click **Enable soft delete**.\n\n The soft delete policy takes effect on the bucket.
