These operations let you monitor\nand modify the conditions and rules of your configured alerts, giving you\nawareness and control of critical events in your system.\n\nAn alerting policy is a set of rules and conditions that dictate how and when\nyou're notified about important events or changes in your project. These\npolicies define the situations and actions for receiving notifications about an\nevent through an alert.\n\nAlerting policies consist of alert rule groups, which refer to a collection of\nindividual alert rules grouped together based on some criteria. The criteria\ninclude the system, application, severity, or other relevant factors. Alert rule\ngroups help you manage and maintain many alert rules by grouping them logically.\n\nThe GDC console lets you view configured alerts and policies, silence\nalerts, and update or delete alert rules and groups.\n| **Note:** Some alert rules are read-only because the system generates them, so you cannot edit or delete them. Ensure the alert rules display editable permissions when updating or deleting rule groups and alerts.\n\nFor information about creating alert rules, see\n[Create alert rules](/distributed-cloud/hosted/docs/latest/gdch/platform/pa-user/create-alert-rules). To view\nand filter open alerts, see\n[Query and view open alerts](/distributed-cloud/hosted/docs/latest/gdch/platform/pa-user/query-and-view-alerts).\n\nBefore you begin\n----------------\n\nTo get the permissions that you need to manage alerts and policies, ask your\nProject IAM Admin to grant you one of the associated Project Cortex Alertmanager\nroles in your project namespace. Depending on the level of access and\npermissions you need, you might obtain editor or viewer roles in a project.\n\nFor more information about these roles, see\n[Prepare IAM permissions](/distributed-cloud/hosted/docs/latest/gdch/platform/pa-user/obs-iam-permissions).\n\nView configured alerts\n----------------------\n\nObtain a list of the latest alerts in your project and click an alert name for\nmore details. The GDC console shows the most recent alerts.\n\nView the alerts in a project from the GDC console:\n\n1. [Sign in to the GDC console](/distributed-cloud/hosted/docs/latest/gdch/platform/pa-user/iam/sign-in).\n2. In the GDC console, select a project.\n3. Click an alert name to view the alert details.\n\nSilence an alert\n----------------\n\nSilence an alert for a specific time. When you silence an alert, you temporarily\nprevent it from opening for a period, even if the condition is met.\n\nSilence an alert from the GDC console:\n\n1.
