Restart services that were shut down

Issues with your Cloud Billing Account can cause your Google Cloud services to be shut down. If this occurs, you might need to manually restart some services after your account is settled.

  • If your Cloud Billing Account was closed, all associated billable services in all projects that use that Cloud Billing Account were stopped.
  • If your project was shut down, only the resources within that project were stopped.

In either case, you have to manually restart any services you want to restore. For Google Cloud, this includes Compute Engine virtual machine (VM) instances, ephemeral IP addresses, and solid-state persistent disks (SSD). Almost all instances can be stopped and restarted, except for virtual machine instances with local SSDs, which cannot be restarted.

To restore your Google Cloud services, you must restart your instances on Google Cloud as follows:

  1. Go to the Google Cloud Console.
  2. Open the console navigation menu (menu) and select Compute Engine.
  3. From the Compute Engine menu, select VM instances.
  4. If prompted, select a project.
  5. Select the checkboxes next to the instances that you want to start.
  6. At the top of the page, click the start (play_arrow) button to restart the instances.
