Create a consistency group to back up application data of all member\napplications together to preserve consistency of data across the member\napplications. You apply a common policy to the members of a consistency group.\n\nUse these instructions to access consistency groups:\n\n1. From the Backup and DR Service management console, click\n **App Manager** and select **Applications** from the drop-down menu.\n\n The **Applications** page opens.\n2. From the left panel, select **Consistency Group**.\n\n | **Note:** Generic applications and VMs are not allowed in consistency groups. Oracle does not support consistency groups of multiple databases. However, a consistency group may include a single Oracle database with other applications.\n\nThe backup/recovery appliance provides a consistent application data capture\nthat undergoes snapshotting at the same moment in time for Windows applications\non the same host, including SQL Server, and local file systems.\n\nFor all other configurations, a consistency group can be defined and an image of\nits member applications run as one job on the host but snapshots of each\napplication is independent and not from the same point in time.\n\nWhen creating a snapshot of these applications, the backup/recovery appliance\nresolves all of the applications into a collection of volumes.\n\nConsistency groups are managed in the same way that applications are managed.\n\nCreate a consistency group\n--------------------------\n\nA consistency group is a group of applications on the same host that are\nquiesced and captured together using a single policy. As the name implies,\nconsistency groups ensure consistent point-in-time capture and\nrecovery across multiple applications. Capturing application data\nwith a consistency group consumes fewer system resources than capturing\napplications individually. For this reason, it is common to see groups of\nSQL server databases placed into consistency groups.\n\nUse these instructions to create a **Consistency Group** from the\n**App Manager** page:\n\n1. From the Backup and DR Service management console, click\n **App Manager** and select **Applications** from the drop-down menu.\n\n The **Applications** page opens.\n2. Select one or more applications.\n\n3. Right-click and select **Add to Consistency Group** from the\n drop-down list. The **Add/Create Consistency Group** dialog opens.\n By default, the **Add to Consistency Group** option is selected.\n\n4. Click **Create Consistency Group**.\n\n5. In **Group Name** , enter a name for the **Consistency Group**.\n\n6. In **Description**, optionally add a brief description about the group.\n\n7. Click **Create**.\n\n Once the **Consistency Group** is created, a success message opens.\n8. To protect the Consistency Group, click the **Click here to manage group**\n option. Otherwise, click **Okay** to close the success message.\n\nBest practices for protecting consistency groups\n------------------------------------------------\n\nAll applications in a consistency group must exist on the same\napplication server. You cannot place applications from different\nservers into the same consistency group.\n\nA consistency group cannot contain multiple Oracle databases.\nHowever, a single Oracle database can be included in a consistency group\nwith other applications.\n\nAdd applications to a consistency group\n---------------------------------------\n\nUse these instructions to add applications to an existing consistency group:\n\n1. From the Backup and DR Service management console, click\n **App Manager** and select **Applications** from the drop-down menu.\n\n The **Applications** page opens.\n2. Select one or more applications you want to add to the consistency group.\n\n3. Right-click and select **Add to Consistency Group** from the drop-down list.\n\n The **Add/Create Consistency Group** dialog opens. By default,\n the **Add to Consistency Group** option is selected.\n4. Select the group and click **Add** to add the selected applications to an\n existing group.\n\n Once the applications are added, a success message opens.\n5. Click **Click here to manage group** to protect the applications added.\n Otherwise, click **Okay** to close the success message.\n\nEdit a consistency group\n------------------------\n\nUse these instructions to edit an existing consistency group:\n\n1. From the Backup and DR Service management console, click\n **App Manager** and select **Applications** from the drop-down menu.\n\n The **Applications** page opens.\n2. Click **Consistency Groups** in the left panel to access the\n **Consistency Groups** list.\n\n3. Select the consistency group you want to edit and then select\n **Edit** from the drop-down list.\n\n4. Make the necessary modifications to the consistency group from the\n **Create Consistency Group** window. These modifications are described in\n [Create a consistency group](#create-cg).\n\nRemove an application from a consistency group\n----------------------------------------------\n\nUse these instructions to remove an application from a consistency group:\n\n1. From the Backup and DR Service management console, click\n **App Manager** and select **Applications** from the drop-down menu.\n\n The **Applications** page opens.\n2. Select the applications you want to remove.\n\n3. Right-click and select **Remove from Consistency Group** from\n the drop-down list.\n\n The applications are removed from the group.\n\nDelete a consistency group\n--------------------------\n\nUse these instructions to delete an existing consistency group:\n\n1. From the Backup and DR Service management console, click\n **App Manager** and select **Applications** from the drop-down menu.\n\n The **Applications** page opens.\n2. Select **Consistency Groups** in the left panel to see the\n **Consistency Groups** list.\n\n3. Select the consistency group you want to delete and then select\n **Delete** from the drop-down list.\n\n | **Note:** You can also right-click on the item in the list and select **Delete** from the menu.\n4. Click **Confirm** in the confirmation dialog. The group appears as\n an orphan in the **Applications** window if there are any active images\n corresponding to that application."]]
