Google Cloud offers fully managed, serverless databases to help reduce the cost of storage, increase insights and value, and manage enterprise data scalably, reliably, and securely, as well as the tools to greatly simplify migration from legacy databases.
For example, BigQuery, our fully managed serverless data warehouse, makes it easy for energy companies to holistically manage and optimize well site planning, drilling, and production. Schlumberger, in conjunction with Google geophysics experts, optimized its geophysical DELFI cognitive energy and production (E&P) environment on GCP, and deployed an E&P data lake based on BigQuery. The result? The solution now runs more than 100 million data items comprised of over 30 TB of petrotechnical data — a scale not previously possible in traditional data center environments.
Additionally, Cognite and Aker BP worked together on several projects on the scalable managed services of Google Cloud to build a sophisticated industrial asset management solution. This solution monitors more than 500,000 events per second in real time from equipment, historical data, and more than 50 different applications.
Improve productivity with efficient end-to-end development
To streamline operations when their technicians are in the field, Aker Solutions developed an entire family of applications built on App Engine, including the ability to open and deploy images very quickly. Leveraging Cloud Dataflow and Cloud Pub/Sub, the apps ingest and process millions of data entities and documents, making them instantly searchable. As a result, the new search and engineering assistant applications have raised efficiency by approximately 20%.
Similarly, the Portugese utility company EDP turned to GCP to solve data access issues on their customer mobile app. EDP migrated from its data center and rebuilt the app in only two months using Google App Engine, autoscaling to meet peaks in demand — all while connecting customers to their data even during maintenance periods.

As a result, technicians can automatically recognize a product by identifying the shape of the container or packaging.
