This page describes how to install and set up your StratoProbe application for data collection.
Before you begin
- Learn how to start a StratoZone assessment and how to download the StratoProbe installer.
- Review the installation requirements.
- Review the requirements for machines and databases that you want to collect data from.
Install the application
To install StratoProbe on your Windows machine, follow these steps:
- Run the StratoProbe installer.
- Review and accept the license agreement.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
- Once the installation is complete, you will see a new application shortcut on your desktop.
To run the StratoProbe application, open the shortcut on your desktop in administrator mode.
Copy the temporary access code
To authorize StratoProbe to collect data, you need to provide the temporary access code you find in the StratoZone portal. Every StratoProbe installation must be authorized with a different code.
To retrieve the authorization code, follow these steps:
- Log in to the StratoZone portal.
- From the Assessments tab, click a row in the Manage Assessments table to expand its content.
Locate the assessment you want to link to your StratoProbe installation, then under Status, click Activate.
Take note of the access code provided on screen and use it to authorize StratoProbe.
Authorize StratoProbe collector
When you run the application for the first time, you need to authorize StratoProbe to communicate with the StratoZone portal.
To authorize StratoProbe collector, follow these steps:
- Click Start authorization.
- In the Check connectivity section, click Run check. StratoProbe verifies that the connection to both the StratoZone portal and the PostgreSQL database are successful.
- Click Continue.
- In the Authorize collector section, enter the temporary access code in the field provided.
- To complete the authorization process, click Authorize.
If you encounter some errors while checking the connectivity, see Troubleshooting connectivity issues for possible troubleshooting strategies.
(Optional) Export security levels mapping
If you use Level 3 as the security level for your data collection, you can map the placeholder data to the original values. For more information about security levels, see Security levels for collection.
You can export a mapping file in CSV format by clicking Export asset name map.
The mapping file is stored locally in StratoProbe, and the mapping data is never transmitted to your StratoZone portal account. However, even with the mapping file, viewing and understanding the collection results in the portal might be difficult, due to possible dependency data.
StratoProbe updates
When a new update for StratoProbe is available, you will see a banner in the app that invites you to download and install the new version. After the download, follow the instructions on this page to install the upgrade.
