Regardless of the market segment, technology will always be a part of the daily routine of end users and employees at companies of various sizes. The civil construction industry is no different, despite being closely linked to practical activities that are less connected to the digital world. With this in mind, Krona, one of the largest local companies in the pipe and fitting sector, decided to restructure and adopt Google Cloud’s cloud solutions, using Google Workspace, to increase employee productivity by integrating internal areas and cutting costs from the IT budget.
With the help of Movti, a company specialized in digital transformation and a Google Cloud deployment partner, Krona adopted the tools from the collaboration app suite to overcome hurdles inside the company and drive productivity and collaboration among its employees. Krona was already working with cloud technology, but decided to migrate its data to Google in late 2017, seeking to adopt a new, more collaborative way of working, with wide support for service execution and close contact with Google’s technical teams.
According to Sidnei Marcelo Moreira de Matos, Krona’s IT Manager, the deployment of Google Workspace went smoothly: “We reached out to Movti to know more about Google’s solution and started with the adaptation in 2017. We tested the tool by the end of that year and deployed it for users in early 2018,” he explains. As for migration, the executive said that “it meant about two months of hard work, as we needed to migrate data we did not want to lose, such as email histories. The process itself was very quick, and we felt our partner’s positive attitude in every meeting. We always had an updated status report.” For Douglas Zanatta, Founding Partner and Business Director at Movti, the partnership between everyone involved was crucial. “Our involvement with Krona was decisive. It was great work, not just from us, but also because of their openness. You can’t just will the change into existence on your own, so that made all the difference,” he says.

A strong internal engagement campaign for adopting cloud solutions also helped. “Deployment went very well because we led a strong engagement campaign. The project was dubbed ‘Kroogle’ after our CFO recorded a video inviting employees to name it as such. All employees were invited to take part from the get-go,” says Gilharde Wasneski, Krona’s Infrastructure Analyst.

Thus, what used to be a potential task for the company’s technical support teams, diverting efforts that may be devoted to more strategic activities, can now be solved with help from someone fully inserted in the everyday context.
“The project’s success lay in Structured Change Management, with a modern, agile methodology focused on people, processes and technology. Engagement actions and a mass transfer of knowledge provided outstanding, lasting results, strengthening Krona’s digital culture, which made it possible to consolidate the strategic transformation process,” adds Rômulo Simas, Founding Partner and Innovation Director at Movti.
What Are the Benefits of Migration?
According to Matos, benefits were twofold, as a result of a reduction in budget spending (undisclosed by the company) in IT teams, which were able to free up equipment previously devoted to storing and processing company data, a task now performed by Google Cloud: “We secured direct and indirect benefits. When we negotiated with Google, we saw a direct financial gain so considerable that it was quickly approved by the organization’s board. Indirectly, employee performance improved significantly,” he says. “We have the habit of holding meetings via Google Meet, which also cuts transportation costs. Employees now say they can no longer live without that solution. Google’s project was a success and the integration was outstanding. Our security level is fantastic,” highlights Matos.

Cloud computing technology allows companies from all sizes, both digital natives and non-natives, to process, store and analyze their data in a safe way, with no need for on-premises physical infrastructure. By using assets like these, companies are able to implement AI and machine learning solutions in an easier and more agile way, and automate internal processes with a potential impact on those assets’ end users.
