Embed a report

Distributing a Looker Studio report by sharing with email addresses, Google Groups, or public links requires the viewer to visit the Looker Studio site to view the full report. Embedding, on the other hand, lets you include your report in your own page, making it easier for you to tell your data story as broadly as possible.

How embedding works

  • You can embed a report in any site or app that supports the HTML iframe tag.

    • The iframe code includes a link to your report, and is automatically generated by Looker Studio. No knowledge of HTML is required.
  • You can also embed in the new Google sites, and in any site that uses the oEmbed format.

  • You can embed public and private reports:

    • If the report is shared publicly, then anyone viewing your page can see the embedded report.
    • If the report is shared with specific users, groups, or domains, then only those people can see the embedded report. These viewers must be logged into a Google account.
  • Embedded reports appear in view mode.

  • Embedded reports are functional and interactive: filters and date range controls work as normal. However, users can't edit, copy, or share the report, as there is no menu bar.

  • Viewers can't manually refresh the data in an embedded report. (The data will refresh automatically when the data freshness threshold expires.)

  • Page navigation for multi-page reports appears in the bottom of the report.

  • Viewers can click a link in the bottom of the report to see it in Looker Studio.

  • Embedded reports always contain the Looker Studio watermark and full-screen option. You can't remove these.

Embed with an HTML iframe

  1. Sign in to Looker Studio.

  2. Edit the report you want to embed.

  3. Share the report :

• For a public report, use the link sharing options "Public on the web" or "Anyone with the link can view"
    • For a private report, enter one or more users or Google Groups
    • Google Workspace users: To limit the report to users in your domain, turn link sharing on and select the "Anyone at [domain] with the link can view"
  4. Select File > Embed report, or in the upper right, click Embed Embed.

  5. Click Enable embedding to open the dialog box.

  6. Ensure that the Embed Code option is selected. The iframe code appears in the text area.

  7. (Optional) Adjust the size of the iframe using the width and height controls

  8. Click COPY TO CLIPBOARD

  9. Edit the HTML source of the page in which you want to embed the report. Paste the iframe code where you want the report to appear.

Embed in Google Sites

You can embed a Looker Studio report in Google Sites using the Embed URL option:

  1. Follow the steps 1 through 5 above.
  2. Select Embed URL.
  3. Click COPY TO CLIPBOARD.
  4. Edit your Google Site.
  5. In the upper right, click Embed URL.
  6. Paste the URL into the Embed from the web dialog.

Embed using oEmbed

oEmbed is a format for allowing an embedded representation of a URL on third party sites. Many popular social media platforms, such as Reddit and Medium, use oEmbed. You can embed a Looker Studio report on these sites.

You can embed a Looker Studio report using the embed URL option:

  1. Follow steps 1 through 5 above.
  2. Select Embed URL.
  3. Click COPY TO CLIPBOARD.
  4. In the target site, paste the URL you just copied as the embedding URL.

Turn embedding off

To stop displaying an embedded report:

  1. Edit your report.
  2. Select File > Embed report, or in the upper right, click Embed Embed.
  3. Uncheck Enable embedding.

You'll still be able to view the report in Looker Studio, but it will no longer appear in embedded sites.

Turn on custom page navigation

By default, page navigation appears at the bottom of an embedded report that has multiple pages. To turn on custom page navigation, follow these steps:

  1. Edit your embedded report.
  2. Select File > Embed report.
  3. Turn on Show report navigation in embedded mode.

Limits of embedding

Bookmark links can't be used with embedded reports. If you need a customized view of the data, use editor filter properties and date ranges applied to the report.
