Error message received when trying to login

Problem

When you try to login using Google Credential Provider for Windows, you get the following error message:
The user on this computer was already added using this account. Please sign in with a different account.

Environment

  • Active Directory profiles
  • Google Credential Provider for Windows installed

Solution

To resolve this issue, you must follow these steps:
  1. Go to the Credential Provider for Windows options in the Admin console.
  2. Go to the Permitted domains setting and enter the allowed domains.
    • It can take up to 1 hour for your update to sync to devices. If you have access to the device, you can manually sync the device:
  3. On the device, open Task Scheduler.
  4. In the Task Scheduler library, right-click GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA and click Run
  5. Wait a few minutes for the policies to update.
If you manage Google Credential Provider for Windows with registry keys, set the domains_allowed_to_login registry key with the allowed domains per the instructions described in Install Google Credential Provider for Windows.

Cause

This message can appear if you try to sign-in to a Google Credential Provider for Windows device and you haven't set any allowed domains in the Admin console of Google Workspace.
