Applying for free data transfer when exiting Google Cloud

Are you a Google Cloud customer looking to exit Google Cloud? If so, you are eligible for free data transfer when you migrate all of your Google Cloud workloads and data from Google Cloud to another cloud provider or an on-premises data center.

Steps to exit Google Cloud with free data transfer

Complete the following steps in order to benefit from free data transfers prior to terminating your Google Cloud agreement:

  1. If you have an assigned Google Cloud account team, contact them before proceeding further.
  2. Review the free data transfer program specifics as detailed on this page.
  3. Complete and submit this form.
  4. The Google Cloud Support team will review the request and notify you of when you may initiate the migration of all your workloads and data from Google Cloud to another cloud service provider or an on-premises data center for free in anticipation of terminating your Google Cloud agreement. You will then have 60 days following this notification to complete your migration out of Google Cloud.
  5. Once you have completed your migration out of Google Cloud within the designated 60 days, you must terminate your Google Cloud agreement in accordance with its terms.
  6. Your invoice(s) following the notification from Google Cloud Support will include a credit amount representing the data transfer cost for the migration of your workloads and data from Google Cloud that is on the platform at the time of your submission of the form.

This process is subject to the following:

  • Free data transfers related to Google Cloud Exit are available on Premium Tier Network Service Tier
  • Only data residing in Google Cloud data storage and data management products are covered
  • You must report any changes to your migration timeline set out in your request form to the Google Cloud Support team
  • You must submit your free data transfer request prior to the termination of your Google Cloud agreement
  • Google Cloud reserves the right to audit movement of customers' data away from Google Cloud for compliance with program terms and conditions

All existing customers are eligible for this program as long as you are moving all your data out of Google Cloud within 60 days of eligibility approval and you are terminating your contract with Google Cloud.

To exit Google Cloud is to end your relationship with, and usage of, Google Cloud and all of its services. In most circumstances this implies moving your workload and/or data from Google Cloud to another cloud provider or to on-premises.

Google Cloud will welcome your return to our platform, as we welcome all customers to use our services. We may review any subsequent requests to participate in the Google Cloud Exit program to ensure they are legitimate and meet the requirements set out on this page.

For cases where customers are migrating only a portion of their data and not completely migrating off Google Cloud, customers are not required to terminate their Google Cloud agreement. An authorized customer representative should review the program specifics as detailed on this page and, if acceptable, submit the request to exit Google Cloud. To ensure that the proper credit amount is applied, this exit request must be submitted prior to any data migration for which the customer expects a credit. Once the customer has received confirmation of approval for this program, they can begin to transfer their data out of Google Cloud. All data transfers to be credited must occur within 60 days of the exit request being processed.

No, the request for a cloud exit must be made prior to the termination of any contract. Customers should submit the exit request and, after receiving approval, transfer their data out of Google Cloud. Only after all data has been transferred should customers proceed with terminating their contract.

No, data transfer charges remain for normal customer activities. The data transfer credits are only for customers who are leaving Google Cloud.

If you are unable to complete your migration within the specified 60 days, you must notify the Google Cloud Support team of your new timeline for completing your migration.

If you are an invoiced account you have to terminate your cloud written agreement in order to receive a credit adjustment.

An invoice level credit adjustment will be automatically applied to the current month’s existing balance.
