Grows client pipeline by 40% in 2 months

Vikrant Khanna entered the world of OTT (Over-The-Top) media as the founder of a streaming platform that enabled viewers to send virtual gifts to their favorite content creators. As he built the solution, he realized the steep technical challenges involved in creating quality streaming solutions, and the difficulties content creators face in monetizing their work, despite a fast-growing OTT market projected to be worth US$139 billion by 2028. These experiences inspired Khanna to launch a new OTT solution, Mogi I/O. It enables content creators to easily launch their own high-quality video streaming platform on the startup's white label solution.

As the platform gained popularity, Mogi I/O decided it needed to bring its infrastructure under one cloud umbrella, and decided to start afresh on Google Cloud. This decision was supported by Niveus, who helped Mogi I/O scope and build the infrastructure on Google Cloud from the early stages. Soon after, it joined Google Cloud Marketplace, a forum for offering Google Cloud vetted third-party cloud solutions, to increase the pipeline of prospective clients.

"One of the things we like about Google Cloud is its proactive and collaborative mindset in supporting us on our journey. The relationship first enabled us to create an optimized architecture for video streaming. Now it's blossomed into a true partnership to build our business on Google Cloud Marketplace."

Vikrant Khanna, CEO and Co-Founder, Mogi I/O

The shift to Google Cloud was driven by the fact that its DevOps team was facing increased workloads, juggling multiple services and wasting precious time trying to determine the right vendor for each computing job. Mogi I/O also found that its reliance on local providers for CDN created bottlenecks, affecting the stability of the system in the critical task of enabling frictionless, low-latency content delivery.

Technical reasons aside, Khanna found the Google Cloud team's proactive and supportive attitude in enabling the customer journey refreshing, which was a stark contrast to the previous global cloud provider it had been using for some computing tasks.

"One of the things we like about Google Cloud is its proactive and collaborative mindset in supporting us on our journey. Google Cloud was available 24/7, attending to any of our needs, working with us to unlock creative solutions to problems right from the start of our journey," shares Khanna. "The relationship with Google Cloud first enabled us to create an optimized architecture for video streaming. Now it's blossomed into a true partnership to build our business on Google Cloud Marketplace."

Having a partner like Niveus has also made the journey with Google Cloud a smooth one, as the Mogi I/O team works with them on a regular basis to optimize their spending, manage troubleshooting, and provision infrastructure as the Mogi I/O team continues to scale.

An ecosystem for stable, super-fast content delivery anywhere, anytime

Mogi I/O deploys a full suite of Google Cloud products and services in an integrated ecosystem, to enable world class video content delivery. Roughly 80% of the architecture is built on a powerful trifecta of Compute Engine, Cloud Storage and Cloud CDN to create super-fast content pipelines from creators to end users, in a format optimized for delightful viewer experiences.

Mogi I/O relies upon Compute Engine to run its custom transcoding solution, which deploys proprietary algorithms to convert content into the best format for consumption by the end user. When a client uploads a video, be it an MOV or MP4 file, the content is processed on Compute Engine virtual machines (VMs) into multiple resolutions that meet the needs of any consumer, whatever their device, media player or operating system. The content then is stored on Cloud Storage until a viewing request hits, when it is pulled from the backend and delivered through Cloud CDN. Key to the platform's success is Cloud CDN's ability to accelerate content delivery by leveraging Google Cloud's advanced edge computing network to bring content as close as possible to the end user, for fast, reliable viewing anywhere in the world.

Meanwhile, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) plays a key facilitating role by enabling the engineering team to move nimbly between development environments, such as production, testing and staging. Different APIs assigned to each environment are able to operate within the same GKE cluster for seamless, real-time coordination of instances, thus relieving engineers of mundane tasks and boosting platform speed.

The benefits of this coordinated ecosystem have been substantial. Since migrating to Google Cloud from a distributed architecture, Mogi I/O has reduced time needed for DevOps tasks by 40%, freeing up that time for creative solution building. Meanwhile, Cloud CDN has driven latency improvements in content delivery of up to 30%. As the platform gains in popularity, Mogi I/O has gained the ability to dynamically autoscale in real-time to an unlimited demand for content, with 100% platform stability.

"With Google Cloud, we know the unit cost for everything we use, then we arrive at a return on investment for services. Since every usage metric is available on a single dashboard, we have granular tracking every month of costs, which makes life simpler and optimizes cost structures."

Susheel Srinivas, Founding Member, Mogi I/O says another key advantage Mogi IO has gained from moving to Google Cloud is granular and transparent costing structures, in which every cent is calibrated according to precise usage measures. That leads to significant cost efficiencies compared to its previous architecture.

"With Google Cloud, we know the unit cost for everything we use, then we arrive at a return on investment for services," says Srinivas. "Since every usage metric is available on a single dashboard, we have granular tracking every month of costs, which makes life simpler and optimizes cost structures."

A future of unlimited growth opportunity with Google Marketplace and dynamic global strategy

Mogi I/O is driving the next stage of its growth journey by listing on Google Cloud Marketplace as an independent software vendor (ISV). In this new phase, Khanna has found Google Cloud representatives to be proactively engaged in developing sales leads, identifying prospects and offering business intelligence that helps secure deals. That in turn has inspired Mogi I/O to develop its own potential client leads in partnership with the Google Cloud team, unlocking business synergies and opportunities.

"By listing on Google Marketplace and working so closely with the Google Cloud team, we have been able to increase the number of customer leads in our pipeline by 40% in just two months, which is phenomenal," says Khanna.

"We believe that our global expansion plans are in good hands with Google Cloud. Whether a customer is in Brazil or in Fiji Islands, we're assured that Cloud CDN and Google Cloud data center hubs are covering the global market for streaming videos to end users anywhere."

Vikrant Khanna, CEO and Co-Founder, Mogi I/O

As Mogi I/O builds its client base on Google Marketplace, it is also forging plans for global expansion to anywhere content creators seek a convenient, easy-to-use OTT platform to monetize their content. As a first step, it is piloting a solution that enables users from South Korea to the United States and beyond to sign up for a 15-minute trial and publish their own OTT web app, with access to the Mogi content management system. With Google Cloud, Khanna feels confident of being able to seamlessly grow at planet scale with stable, superfast connectivity, thanks to the Google Cloud global network of data centers that deliver content optimally to the world's farthest reaches.

"We believe that our global expansion plans are in good hands with Google Cloud," says Khanna. "Whether a customer is in Brazil or in Fiji Islands, we're assured that Cloud CDN and Google Cloud data center hubs are covering the global market for streaming videos to end users anywhere."
