Google Cloud Platform Results

  • Supported analysis of more than 300 million numbers from 20,000 listed companies on behalf of about 100,000 clients
  • Assisted planned expansion from stock markets in seven countries to stock markets in 20 countries
  • Provided a platform that enables the business to focus on continuously improving the quality of analytics provided to clients

Processing about 100GB of data per second

For stock market investors – even those with plenty of experience – researching listed companies can be a daunting and time-consuming task. Thailand-headquartered Jitta aims to make this process considerably easier by providing insightful stock analysis and portfolio management services to investors.

Since its foundation in 2013, Jitta has grown to provide services to 100,000 clients worldwide. The business provides tools that enable clients to review the performance and price of stocks they may consider investing in. In addition, clients can hand their portfolios to Jitta to administer.

Jitta’s approach is winning business internationally with 20 percent of its clients located in countries such as China, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam.

Jitta’s technology strategy supports a business that analyses more than 300 million numbers from over 20,000 companies in the stock markets covered. The company screens each business monitored against more than 100 criteria including publicly available financials, trends and ratios. These criteria are measured and weighted by Jitta’s proprietary algorithm that then produces an assessment.

“Our challenge is to continually improve the quality of data we provide to our customers, while scaling to support our growth including coverage of new markets,” says Sira Sujjinanont, Chief Technology Officer, Jitta. “We need to keep the company moving quickly and drive it forward through the skills and energy of our engineers.”

Jitta initially ran its applications and services on public cloud services. However these clouds could not support Jitta’s core requirement: a platform that enabled its engineers to push code into production quickly and easily. “We needed a platform that enabled our team to develop, test, deploy and maintain applications without friction,” says Sujjinanont. “We explored our options and quickly realised Google Kubernetes Engine best met our requirements, due to its stability and efficiency.

“In addition, Google operated data centres across Asia, which enabled us to locate our applications and services close to large groups of customers.” Jitta migrated to Google Kubernetes Engine over a three-month period and now operates a multi-cloud architecture with Google Kubernetes Engine as the cornerstone. Its engineers can use Google Kubernetes Engine to easily develop, test, stage and run code.

Built on the open source Kubernetes system, Google Kubernetes Engine enables businesses such as Jitta to manage and orchestrate clusters in Docker containers. Businesses can schedule containers into the cluster and automate management based on predefined rules. “Imagine that every engineer can deploy their own prototypes and test and run production environments that scale by themselves when increased loads hit,” says Sujjinanont. “This is happening now, after they push code to their familiar Github workflow and pre-defined configurations. Google Kubernetes Engine made this possible and gives engineers the opportunity to be more creative and productive."

Seamlessly expand client numbers and enter new markets

Using Google’s autoscaling enables Jitta to seamlessly accommodate growth in client numbers and data volumes, as well as enter new markets without major disruption or investment. The business is now processing about 100GB of data per second to deliver the deep analysis its clients require. Using Google Kubernetes Engine has also removed the bottlenecks that required Jitta to take six hours each day to calculate the quality of stocks monitored in each market supported. Now, the same task can be completed in less than 15 minutes, improving the investment opportunities for clients.

Deliver reliable, highly available services

Running on Google Kubernetes Engine has helped Jitta deliver reliable, highly available products to its clients and assured internal teams that the risk of disruption is minimal.

Availability is currently running at about 99.9 percent – well within business requirements. With administration and maintenance of Google Kubernetes Engine managed by Google’s own expert teams, Jitta’s engineers can focus on core business activities such as improving data analysis. With only 25 employees, the ability to dedicate nearly all of its resources to business development and growth is a major advantage for the company. Furthermore, running Google Kubernetes Engine has enabled Jitta to run jobs concurrently.

“Before we deployed Googe Kubernetes Engine, we had to queue individual tasks for completion and each task took time to be completed,” says Sujjinanont. “Now, we can run these tasks simultaneously in container environments, with Google Kubernetes Engine helping us with scheduling and scaling.”

Remaining close to clients and eliminating latency

Google’s multinational presence has also enabled the business to remain close to clients in various markets, improving their experience and paving the way for improved reputation and revenues. Extending its initial deployment on Google Kubernetes Engine from the United States to Singapore has enabled Jitta to reduce latency from about 800 milliseconds to 80 milliseconds.

Jitta’s embrace of Google Cloud to enable its business does not stop at Google Kubernetes Engine. “In the beginning we were a startup, so using cloud-based intelligent applications made sense for us,” says Sujjinanont. “It was very easy for us to start using G Suite applications such as Gmail, Google Drive and Google Docs. We don’t need to maintain them and they just work.

“Google is playing a key role in the development of our business,” he adds. ‘Right now, we cover stock markets in seven countries and in future we want to cover markets in 20 countries or more. Google Cloud Platform and G Suite will play a key role in helping us do this.”
