DLT and Orbitera provide government agencies with in-depth information about their cloud use, helping them provide better services to citizens
Government agencies and nonprofits have been rushing to the cloud for many of the same reasons that enterprises have: to reduce costs, free up time spent managing infrastructure, and gain access to powerful tools that can help them better run their organizations. But once agencies make the move, they can have a difficult time getting an accurate picture of exactly which cloud services they’re using and how much they pay for them. This makes it difficult to plan budgets and then allocate cloud charges against them.
DLT Solutions, Inc. (DLT), a cloud-services reseller solves this problem by helping government agencies and nonprofits manage their cloud deployments. Better invoice data, provided more quickly
Because of the way most cloud platforms charge for their services, DLT doesn’t receive an individual invoice for each of its customers. Instead, information for all customers is combined in nine master DLT accounts. Before moving to Orbitera, DLT staff had to examine these nine accounts and manually determine which charges applied to which customers, then create 1,200 invoices for them.
Orbitera solves the problem. It updates invoices on the same schedule as each cloud provider, which can be as frequent as every four hours. DLT’s clients get the most up-to-date invoicing via a console, and can closely track the cloud services they use and how much they pay for each. Many of DLT’s customers use multiple clouds, and the console allows them to view their services and costs across all these platforms.
DLT clients can now make informed decisions about how to better use cloud services. They can cut back on services if they are too expensive, and increase the use of others if they are more cost-effective. They can also better budget and plan for the future. Helping public agencies make better use of the cloud leads to better government services for citizens. Agencies can experiment with pilot projects, gauge how successful they are, and launch those that help the public most — for example, using smartphones, machine vision and artificial intelligence to recognize manhole covers that need repair.

Thanks to the better services Orbitera helps DLT provide, Danoff says the company can more easily attract new clients while increasing current client loyalty. DLT’s cloud business has grown 22 percent year-over-year because of the strategic services it can provide to customers, and DLT says Orbitera played a key role in that growth.
