Reduces storage TCO by more than 50%

Enterprise storage, and the maintenance and data protection that go along with it, have long been a source of expense and headaches for businesses. The cloud is making new options possible, enabling companies like ClearSky Data to deliver hybrid services to companies that want the performance and security of on-premises storage with the elasticity and economic benefits of the cloud.

Founded by entrepreneurs with strong track records in cloud computing, storage, and data management, ClearSky delivers on-demand primary storage with flash performance, offsite backup, and disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS). Customers can access all their data wherever and whenever it’s needed, with no need to manage replication. Because customers pay only for what they use and can scale up or down on demand, they often reduce TCO for storage by more than 50%.

“Google Cloud Platform is an essential part of our multi-cloud strategy, helping us bring customers into the cloud while maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs. Google is a responsive and flexible partner, allowing us to deliver a fully managed storage service that customers can count on 24/7.”

To minimize latency and help ensure flash performance for most frequently accessed data sets, ClearSky places an all-flash edge cache appliance in each customer’s data center. Warm data is cached at a close-by metro point of presence. All data is backed up to the cloud, giving customers a cost-effective option to archive cold data and enhance Disaster Recovery.

Until recently, ClearSky partnered with only one public cloud provider for back-end storage. To gain cost benefits and give customers more choice, it decided to adopt a multi-cloud strategy that includes Google Cloud Platform. By becoming a Google Cloud Platform Technology Partner, ClearSky benefits from better performance, more flexible connectivity, and lower operating costs.

“Google Cloud Platform gives us enterprise performance, more comprehensive security, and complete reliability.”

“Google Cloud Platform is an essential part of our multi-cloud strategy, helping us bring customers into the cloud while maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs,” says Ellen Rubin, CEO and Co-founder of ClearSky Data. “Google is a responsive and flexible partner, allowing us to deliver a fully managed storage service that customers can count on 24/7.”

Adds Courtney Pallotta, Vice President of Marketing at ClearSky Data: “Google Cloud Platform gives us enterprise performance, more comprehensive security, and complete reliability.”

Partnering for speed and success

The Google Cloud Partners Technology Track is for partners like ClearSky that create products that complement, enhance, or extend the reach or functionality of Google Cloud products. By leveraging Google Cloud Storage for flexible, unified object storage, and Google Compute Engine to host a virtual edge cache, ClearSky is offering its customers a new way of consuming enterprise storage on demand. Latency—the enemy of storage performance—is kept to a minimum thanks to the Google high-throughput global network.

“Google Cloud Storage delivers very high performance, which is essential to ClearSky service,” says Lazarus (Laz) Vekiarides, CTO and Co-founder of ClearSky Data. “Google Cloud Platform also gives us more places where we can connect into the network at high speeds, which is essential for our service.”

More cost-effective, no downside

Using Google Cloud Platform is very cost effective, with lower port costs, more customer-friendly pricing models, and no need to use expensive direct connect services to get the performance ClearSky requires.

“When we get a new customer, we quote them a price that includes back-end cloud storage,” says Laz. “The lowest cost and highest performing option is Google, so we are excited to add more customers to the service in partnership with Google.

Achieving hybrid cloud goals

ClearSky is also collaborating with Google in the field to raise awareness of its services and win new business. The two companies are working on co-marketing opportunities, planning events, and jointly calling on customers. ClearSky also uses G Suite apps such as Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets to keep its business moving forward.

“Google is as committed to innovation as we are, treating us as a trusted partner and helping us get the most from public cloud,” says Courtney. “Google Cloud Platform makes it easy for us to be in multiple clouds and give our customers more options with the best possible service.”
