Automated reports with Google Apps Script in Google Sheets

By investing time and resources into accurate information collection and analysis, boodmo has grown to become India’s largest online marketplace for automotive parts, connecting customers with suppliers on a single platform. When boodmo first launched in 2015, there was very little customer data available. In order to make a lasting impact, boodmo would have to gather and analyze most of this information itself. To do that, it needed Google BigQuery.

“We spent a long time gathering information before we went to market. In this industry, it’s not enough to simply take a common CMS system, upload a few pictures and start selling,” says Yevgeny Sokolnikov, CEO at boodmo. “We’ve seen competitors do that and they never last. We needed a way of collecting customer data, putting it in one place and analyzing it for insights. Google BigQuery helped us to do that.”

Building a complete analytics solution with Google BigQuery

boodmo quickly became a dominant player in its niche, but wanted to build on its relationship with its customers and expand further. To do so effectively, the company had to carry out a comprehensive analysis of its customers as well as identify profitable marketing channels. boodmo had to pull together different strands of data from multiple sources but there was no simple way to do this. The company was using Google Analytics and Adwords to gather data about its web activity and advertising, but it also needed to include more detailed information about its orders.

“I had worked with OWOX before, so I knew how they work and how much they could help us. We decided to hire them very quickly. That was not a difficult decision and it saved us a lot of time.”

To do that, boodmo turned to OWOX, a leading Google Partner and analytics expert. Using the proprietary OWOX BI Pipeline, boodmo combined all the data from Adwords, Google Analytics and its website in Google BigQuery. boodmo quickly and easily visualized its analyses and produced reports with Google Sheets, using Google Apps Script to automate the process.

With Google BigQuery and the OWOX BI Pipeline, boodmo was able to gain new insight into its customers’ behaviour and revenue channels much faster than before. It sees up-to-date reports on a regular basis with Google Sheets, allowing it to react to any changes in the market while the OWOX BI Pipeline feeds new data into Google BigQuery in near real-time. By monitoring revenue channels, boodmo has been able to identify the most profitable ways of deploying its marketing resources and optimize its customer acquisition strategy. “Before, whenever I needed a report from my development team, it would take them a couple of weeks to pull all the data together, review it and then circulate the report,” concludes Yevgeny. “With all the information in one place, my team can go into Google BigQuery whenever they need to and extract what they want. It allows us to build life cycle models for customers and identify which marketing channels work for us and which ones don’t.”
