  • Establishing a strong data foundation positions Audika to leverage Vertex AI for future predictive modeling and conversational analytics

Audika adopted Looker to balance global governance with local customization. This strategy reduced technical debt and democratized access for 3,000 users. Frontline staff now use daily dashboards to improve patient care, establishing a strong foundation for future Vertex AI integration.

A strategic shift to self-service analytics

Audika turned to Looker to build a modern, self-service environment to democratize data access, providing self-service capability across the organization, and foster a more proactive, collaborative data culture.

  • Powerful explores for self-service: Looker's Explore feature empowers local teams to dive deeper into the data and explore nuances, without needing to request additional development or edits to reports from global teams.
  • Looker’s semantic layer for governance: The global data team built shared semantic models using LookML (Looker Modeling Language) as a foundation for democratizing data across markets. They now manage the core, governed data models, making consistent KPIs and metrics available for use by all analysts, who can co-create dashboards and build custom KPIs on existing calculations and logic, within the governed environment, based on a single source of truth.

Audika chose Looker because it sits in the middle of the governance spectrum, enabling agility within a "walled ecosystem" where users are working with common definitions, having a design freedom without breaking underlying logic. James Collison, solution architect at Audika, highlights that Looker "shines quite brightly amongst its competitors" by offering "data as code", which enables the modularization and scaling of components. This, paired with the ability to foster autonomy within a governed environment, really "opened the door" for adoption across Audika.

  • Seamless insight sharing: The convenience of sharing content from URLs has enabled Audika a new level of collaboration and fostered a more data driven culture, allowing teams to easily share insights and collaborate across teams and geographies.

By visualizing high NPS scores and positive feedback, the tool empowers teams to "celebrate their success," transforming data from a static report into a daily motivator. King calls out that: "Looker connects people, insight, and our purpose to help more people hear better."

The implementation: A blueprint for cultural change

Audika approached data transformation as a strategic journey, using a phased rollout to build momentum and refine the process before scaling.

The journey began with a pilot program to prove the technology, identify design principles for dashboards and how to leverage and make full use of Looker.

  • Learning and design principles: Insights gained from the pilot formed the foundation for creating dashboard design principles to ensure optimal performance and user experience. This process helped identify best practices for usage, access management, and data modeling needed for building a global solution.

Adoption of Global Solutions

Expansion to local markets globally provided a shared starting point for exploration and benefits. This was achieved by developing a repeatable onboarding playbook and engaging local champions.

  • Global standards: Based on learnings from the pilot and business needs, global teams developed the Data and Analytics platform with a suite of standard dashboards. This provided the foundation for establishing a community of learnings and harmonization of data and analytics.
  • Playbook for onboarding: To enable an efficient onboarding process, a repeatable playbook for change management and training was developed. This included communication material, learning plans, and self-service training material.
  • Engagement of local champions: King Tam, Commercial and Operational Excellence Director at Audika Australia, emphasized a key factor for successful global adoption was engaging with the local champions to drive onboarding in each local market.
  • Cultural transformation in the clinics: For non-technical clinic staff, successful adoption relied on making data intuitive and engaging. King describes Looker as the clinical team’s "GPS tool" essential for navigating opportunities and identifying issues during daily morning huddles. The Looker dashboard provides a structured, chronological view that allows staff to review yesterday's outcomes and plan patient care for the week ahead.

Enhancing and sustaining the data culture

Continued adaptations focused on addressing local needs not addressed by the original standard offerings.

  • Address specific needs: To address local needs not covered by the original dashboards, local analysts were empowered to dive into gaps and co-develop solutions to deliver on their requirements and identify opportunities for scaling local requirements.
  • Data and Analytics community: Audika created a community of local and global data and analytics ambassadors to drive cross-market collaboration through sharing of learning and co-development that could be adopted globally or locally. This created a powerful loop where innovation in one market benefited others and encouraged stronger adoption.

The future: Paving the way for an AI-ready enterprise

By building a strong, governed data foundation with Looker, Audika is now positioned to leverage advanced analytics and AI capabilities. The successful adoption of self-service data has led Audika to actively pursue new use cases, including: Conversational Analytics to make data exploration even more intuitive for regional managers, and expanding use of Vertex AI and Predictive Models, with the goal of surfacing these predictions directly in the Looker front-end to drive proactive, frontline decision-making.

By combining a data-centric culture, effective change management, and strong leadership buy-in, Audika is paving the way to become a digital-first and truly AI-ready enterprise.

Looker has been a true game-changer that has empowered our entire team at Audika.
