Increased page completion rates by 10%
Streamlined the listing process, enabling users to list more items in 50% less time
Tradera, a leading Swedish secondhand marketplace, used Gemini’s image recognition capabilities to automate and simplify item listings, reducing listing times, increasing completion rates, and boosting secondhand sales.
“Most of us have too much stuff at home—things we don’t use and never will,” says Stefan Öberg, CEO of the Swedish secondhand marketplace Tradera. “But for many people, the sales process is a major obstacle when it comes to selling secondhand.”
To streamline its item listing process, Tradera turned to Gemini Flash from Google Cloud. “We created a model based on Gemini Flash that uses photos of an item to create a title and description, pick a category, and set the right attributes,” Öberg explains. “Completion rates for listings have jumped 10%, with users spending 50% less time creating them which means they sell more.”

Gemini’s advanced image recognition capabilities, ability to streamline complex processes, and ease of implementation have inspired the company to explore further use cases for generative AI. So far, Tradera has significantly reduced the cost of machine translation, lowering barriers to entry in new markets. Continuing to improve the user experience, automating internal manual tasks, and fraud detection are all in the pipeline for the near future. “It’s rare to come across a technology like Gemini that radically improves the process,” Öberg says. “Our vision now is to go from images, to proofreading, to the publish button. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive: People are just loving it.”
