Trace One builds solutions that empower consumer packaged goods (CPG) retailers and process manufacturers to innovate smartly, maintain regulatory compliance, and transform business workflows. For more than three decades, the company has been at the forefront of innovation, consistently delivering enhanced value to its customers. As Antoine Daviet, Trace One's Chief Product Officer, puts it, “Given the high expectations of our customers, we strive to fulfill not only their current needs, but also anticipate their future needs. Our artificial intelligence project came about with this in mind. After analyzing market solutions, it became clear that Google Cloud was the perfect partner to assist us in advancing our solutions.”
Before diving in, Trace One pinpointed 10 priority use cases across key business areas, all aimed at boosting efficiency and precision. A primary goal is automating the extraction of information from complex documents, such as datasheets, to prefill fields, allowing for swift and precise updates to product databases. AI also streamlines the integration of new information by automating data mapping between different systems and standards.
Trace One’s users can leverage AI to compare texts and images, ensuring consistency on packaging and labels, and verifying compliance with ever-changing regulations. Daviet explains, “International regulations are diverse and complex, with AI comparing and monitoring the data, our customers will save a significant amount of time.”
Trace One consistently explores additional avenues for value creation, such as optimizing product recipes and formulations. By using AI to suggest modifications, Trace One’s customers can enhance profit margins while adhering to quality and regulatory standards. The broader goal is to automate and monitor processes, freeing humans from tedious tasks, minimizing errors, and increasing agility in the face of regulatory and commercial challenges.
Following successful proof-of-concept trials, Trace One is gearing up for full-scale production. Laurent Locquette, Chief Technology Officer at Trace One, notes, “Our POC phase validated various use cases. The first rollouts are in progress, with finalization planned by the end of the year. Google Cloud, and in particular Vertex AI, played a major role in this rapid rollout. Vertex AI's integrated approach has simplified our developments and accelerated production.”
This integration has minimized the need for specialized technical expertise. Daviet adds, “Google Cloud's capacity to provide an integrated and managed environment has reduced operational load, freeing our teams from tasks with no added value so they can focus on innovation and improving our services.”
Google's robust security guarantees have also been a game-changer. Trace One's teams can confidently implement AI use cases, knowing that sensitive customer data is protected.
Throughout this journey, Trace One has benefited from technical support and expert guidance from Google Cloud. Hamza Mahrouch, Data Manager at Trace One highlights the value of this ongoing assistance. “This continuous assistance not only rapidly increased the development of its teams' expertise in Google Cloud technologies, but it was also particularly useful in helping them understand and effectively harness advanced language models, such as Gemini,” he said.
Building on this early success, Trace One is expanding its AI-focused R&D team to explore new possibilities and refine existing technologies.
Hamza Mahrouch concludes, “AI is much more than a tool: it's a catalyst that lets us redefine PLM and regulatory compliance industry standards.”
