The new way to manage materials sustainably
With 50,000 employees and increasingly decentralized data, Suzano needed an adequate process to maintain information security, drive knowledge management, avoid repetitive work, and improve availability.
It knew that AI could help it reduce issues with operational overload through greater fluidity of processes, reducing issues with its SAP environment.
Suzano developed a platform called VagaLúmen that uses Cortex Framework to populate views from Material base and allows users to ask questions about the SAP Materials data on BigQuery. Gemini Pro 1.0 is used to transform employee questions from natural language into SQL code and run queries on BigQuery.
This helps Suzano better manage its sustainable material assets.
VagaLúmen is a tool developed internally by Suzano Teams as a new way to democratize data for operations public, aligning with the purpose of the simplification and innovation journey. One of the main results has been a 95% reduction in the time required to query Insumos and MRO material, a process that used to take an average of 2 minutes, now can be done in just 8 seconds with VagaLúmen. Since the Go Live in May 2024, VagaLúmen has reached 4,000 accesses and 473 unique users. With the new functionalities, expected to be implemented in August 2024, it is anticipated that approximately 6,000 unique users will be reached.

Why Google Cloud?
Suzano chose Google Cloud and partner Sauter Digital to build the platform thanks to the trust it had in both companies, as well as the expansive toolset on Google Cloud. The company uses Artifact Registry to build its Docker images, Cloud Run to automate processes, and Load Balancing to maintain efficiency.
In addition to development assistance and gen AI support, Google Cloud and Sauter Digital provided the security, reliability, and ease-of-use Suzano required for the project. Sauter Digital was especially helpful in providing the technical knowledge about Cortex code and documentation to make sure the project worked.
In the end, Suzano can now leverage VagaLúmen to decentralize information with security, agility, and speed, making it a 100-year-old company with the continued character of a startup.
