As the largest fertilizer producer in Asia, Pupuk Indonesia faced a significant challenge in efficiently extracting and organizing data from its diverse document collection. The company's existing OCR technology struggled to accurately process documents containing a plethora of unrelated design elements, including watermarks, images, and other visual features. This limitation hindered workflow optimization and productivity across the organization.
To address this issue, Pupuk Indonesia sought to enhance its OCR capabilities. However, developing such advanced technology required specialized expertise and resources that were not readily available in-house. This is where Pupuk worked with Devoteam to implement Google Cloud within its ecosystem.

Improving on its existing scannable PDF data extraction capabilities, Devoteam created a system using Vision AI and Gemini that reads documents, cleans them up, and automatically organizes the content clearly and coherently.
Using actual spatial information instead of a predictive machine learning model, the system relies on X and Y coordinate data in document images to automatically adjust the resulting content that is highly accurate without the need for extensive training or fine-tuning. This means that documents can be quickly and efficiently organized, and are easily accessible for use.

Furthermore, validating the results and addressing any issues flagged by the system only requires a single employee, due to the ease of use of the platform. The reduced workforce has also generated significant cost savings for Pupuk Indonesia, enabling the company to reallocate resources to other vital components.
