Chief Technology Officer, Promevo
Promevo is a Google partner serving over 3,000 clients across North America. Specializing in Google Workspace, ChromeOS, and Google Cloud services, Promevo offers a blend of consulting, reselling, and ISV software solutions. The company's flagship products — gPanel and Promevo Insights — are designed to streamline Google Workspace administration and provide actionable intelligence across cloud environments.
John Pettit, Chief Technology Officer of Promevo, leads the product services organization and oversees the development of the company's platforms.
"We're all-in on Google," he says. "Our mission is to help customers unlock the full potential of their Google ecosystem." To support that mission, Promevo provides and manages software licenses, hardware, and professional services to develop innovative solutions on Google Cloud.
Before adopting Looker, Promevo's reporting capabilities were limited to basic tabular exports and in-app visualizations. While the company's gPanel software could push data to Sheets, customers were asking for the depth and flexibility from advanced analytics and embedded intelligence. "We wanted to evolve gPanel into a true workspace intelligence platform, but we were stuck with static reports and fragmented data views," Pettit says.
Internally, Promevo's finance team relied heavily on Excel, manually reconciling complex SKUs and payment terms tied to Google product reselling. This created bottlenecks, inconsistencies, and a lack of real-time visibility.
Promevo evaluated several business intelligence tools, including Tableau and Power BI. Ultimately, the organization chose Looker for its embedded capabilities, semantic modeling through LookML, and tight integration with Google Cloud. "Looker's embedded nature allows us to overlay actions and complete the 'intelligence to action' cycle," says Pettit. "It's not just about dashboards — it's about empowering users to act."
Eric Klostermann, Vice President of Cloud and AI at Promevo, adds: "The native connection between Looker and Google Cloud's data suite gives us a global view. It centralizes our data and ensures a single source of truth."
Looker isn't just a BI tool — it's a strategic enabler. Looker helps us deliver intelligence, drive action, and scale impact.

Promevo uses Looker Embedded for customer-facing data monetization, exposing premium visualization services to customers. This enables upsell opportunities with minimal buildout cost. "We've built dashboards that blend first-party and third-party data to forecast demand and track ROI," says Klostermann. One Promevo client, an advertising agency, used Looker to combine proprietary campaign data with third-party social impression metrics to enable demand forecasting and track ROI against campaigns.
This strategy has become a cornerstone of Promevo's data monetization model, allowing the company to deliver high-value analytics as a service.
Promevo also integrates Looker into gPanel to provide real-time intelligence across Google Workspace. Promevo Insights, built entirely on Looker, snapshots Google Cloud environments daily and uses AI to summarize changes and surface recommendations. "Insights gives a bottom-up view of the Google Cloud Admin console," says Pettit. "It's like asset management meets AI, providing elevated recommendations and change data capture."
The platform also uses BigQuery as its data warehouse, with LookML models enabling multi-tenant environments that silo client data securely.
In addition, Looker has revolutionized Promevo's internal operations, especially in finance. Subscription management, SKU tracking, and payment term reconciliation are now automated and centralized. With standardized metrics across departments, everyone from sales to support works from the same playbook. "Our finance team went from Excel chaos to self-sufficiency," says Pettit. "They use Looker Explores to pivot data and get answers without relying on analysts."
One of Promevo's customers, getting ready to scale up, faced revenue shrinkage due to manual key punch errors and system discrepancies. By centralizing data from Salesforce and Zero (FPNA software) in Looker, the customer identified the issue and recaptured $1.2 million — 10% of total annual revenue. This dramatic shift allowed the customer to invest in additional headcount and its new feature roadmap. "That's the power of centralized intelligence," says Klostermann. "It's not just about saving money — it's about enabling growth."
Promevo is also accelerating time to market by using Looker. For example, the company estimates that building Promevo Insights on Looker took only a few months, compared to more than a year for a custom BI stack. "We were able to go to market faster, iterate quicker, and deliver value sooner," says Pettit.
Nearly all of Promevo's 100 employees now use tools powered by Looker. From client success managers accessing product analytics to executives reviewing financial metrics, Looker has become ubiquitous. "Our entire organization touches Looker in some way," says Pettit. "It's woven into our daily operations."
Promevo is just beginning its journey with Looker, with plans to add Conversational Analytics and agentic workflow capabilities to democratize data access. This marks a shift away from traditional reporting — which Pettit notes "often comes at the cost of speed" — toward a model where interacting with data feels like a natural conversation.
However, Pettit emphasizes that democratizing data requires a foundation of trust. "Effective conversational analytics starts with a unified, audited data layer," says Pettit. "If teams aren't speaking the same data language, AI systems can't reliably interpret queries or surface accurate insights."
By leveraging Looker's semantic layer as that single source of truth, Promevo is confident in moving toward an agentic future. The goal is to allow users to ask natural language questions and receive structured, actionable responses. "We are seeing analytics shift from a source of insight to a catalyst for action," says Pettit. "It's not just about seeing the data; it's about creating a loop where the system detects an issue, recommends a solution, and helps us execute it instantly."
Klostermann envisions sales leaders using these prompts to analyze free trial usage and forecast conversions — without needing technical skills. "It's about making data lovable," he says. "A nontechnical user should be able to ask, 'Show me our top trial users by activity,' and get a beautiful visualization instantly."
Promevo's adoption of Looker exemplifies how embedded analytics, semantic modeling, and cloud-native architecture can transform both customer-facing products and internal operations. As Pettit puts it, "Looker isn't just a BI tool — it's a strategic enabler. It helps us deliver intelligence, drive action, and scale impact."
