The new way to support merchant POS demands
Digital payments, ecommerce, and government cashless economy measures are fuelling growth and competition in the POS market in Indonesia. To succeed in this dynamic market, providers such as PCS Group need to operate as efficiently as possible. By integrating Gemini 2.5 Flash in Vertex AI with an Elasticsearch database and Prophet algorithm, the business is aligning procurement with predicted merchant demand for the thermal paper rolls used to print bills and receipts, reducing the volumes acquired by 22%.
“Previously, we simply estimated our thermal paper needs by calculating how many rolls each merchant would need based on historical experience, and multiplying that by the number of merchants we had,” explains Erwin Fransiscus, SVP IT, PCS Group. “Thanks to Google AI, we’ve reduced our thermal paper procurement by more than one-fifth from about 150,000 rolls per month while still meeting each merchant’s needs. This has reduced our costs significantly.”
After experiencing a significant security breach in 2021 and to align with growth forecasts, PCS Group migrated critical workloads, including its subscription payment gateway, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, and MariaDB databases, and its IPSec VPN from third-party hosted virtual machines to Google Cloud.
