Scalability: A smooth experience for an ever-growing number of users
Flexibility and accessibility: Access to educational content anywhere in the world
Personalization: Personalized learning paths thanks to AI
International expansion: Increased impact across the globe, particularly in French-speaking Africa
For 13 years, Nomad Education has been on a mission to promote academic success for all and democratize access to education in French-speaking countries, using innovation to promote equal opportunities.
We opted for access on smartphones, as this tool can be a formidable lever for social equality in education: it is present in both wealthy and more modest homes. Therefore, it makes learning accessible to all, regardless of geographical or financial barriers. Finally, our solution is also available offline, which allows us to bring school where it is not, particularly in French-speaking Africa.

Created in 2011, Nomad Education supports the academic success of young French speakers, regardless of their academic or social level. Through its application and website, the company offers revision content written by 350 teachers in all subjects (from primary school to Bachelor's +3). Its digital solution incorporates gamification elements to make learning more engaging. "We offer interactive quizzes, mini-lessons, and corrected exercises, allowing users to assess themselves and progress in a fun way," explains Caroline Maitrot-Feugas, Founder of Nomad Education. "Coaching features inspired by sports applications are also included in our approach to motivate and re-engage students in their schooling, the goal being to make the educational experience more stimulating. At the same time, we opted for access on smartphones, as this tool can be a formidable lever for social equality in education: it is present in both wealthy and more modest homes. Therefore, it makes learning accessible to all, regardless of geographical or financial barriers. Finally, our solution is also available offline, which allows us to bring school where it is not, particularly in French-speaking Africa."
A mission-driven company and member of the UNESCO Global Education Coalition, Nomad Education has been recognized many times for its commitment to youth education around the world. A profitable and self-financed organization, it already supports more than six million students in France and French-speaking Africa. Its historical model is based on commercial registry. But more recently, the company has also launched a freemium subscription, a rapidly accelerating model that should represent 25% of its turnover by 2025.
Driven by the need for a more flexible and resilient infrastructure to support its rapid growth, Nomad Education migrated its platform to Google Cloud in 2022. "Our application is free and must be available everywhere, including in poorly connected areas," explains Julien Rotrou, Technical Director of the company. "Google Cloud's ability to provide us with a flexible and reliable infrastructure is essential. It allows us to effectively manage traffic peaks, especially during exam periods, and to optimize our resources according to demand. In addition, the use of Google Cloud's advanced services, such as CDN, has improved the distribution of educational content, ensuring a smoother and more reliable user experience."
Nomad Education also relies on Google Cloud Storage, Google Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, and advanced Serverless services to adjust its resource consumption according to demand, without excessive costs and with optimization of the carbon footprint, in accordance with the company's values.
With the intention of positioning itself as the "Spotify of education," Nomad Education aspires to become a key player in French-speaking digital education by offering a complete and quality revision and orientation solution for all stages of schooling. With this in mind, the company has embarked on a very ambitious project aimed at integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to personalize learning and improve the user experience.
"Overall, the idea is to create a 'tree of knowledge' covering school curricula from CM1 to Terminale. This structure will make it possible to identify the specific shortcomings of each student and to offer them adapted content to fill these gaps. For example, if a student has difficulty with fractions, the AI detects this weakness and suggests targeted exercises to strengthen this skill," explains Julien Rotrou.
To carry out this project, Nomad Education is collaborating with 350 teachers to develop programs covering 2,000 different subjects. Based on Vertex AI, the project should also use generative AI models to create varied educational content, always reviewed by pedagogical experts to ensure their quality.

With a reliable and robust infrastructure and a scalable architecture, Nomad Education now has the technical means to achieve its ambitions, namely to expand beyond France and Africa by adapting its educational content and access solutions to the specificities of each country.
"By collaborating with Google Cloud, we have been able to strengthen our social and educational impact. The scalable and flexible infrastructure as well as the advanced services, particularly in the field of AI, allow us not only to manage millions of users, but also to maintain a free quality offer, accessible even in areas where the connection is limited. Today, thanks to these resources, we aim to become the leader in French-speaking digital education while remaining true to our values of accessibility and sustainability, and actively contributing to reducing our environmental footprint," says Caroline Maitrot-Feugas.
"Google Cloud offers us a solid technical foundation to innovate and offer young people access to education in regions where this resource is often scarce. Thanks to the flexibility of its infrastructure and its geographical presence, we can look to the future with confidence and continue to grow without limits, both in terms of users and new markets," concludes Julien Rotrou.
