MultiTV: Powering low-latency, cost-effective video streaming with Google Cloud

Google Cloud Results

With Google Cloud, MultiTV is transforming video streaming both for businesses and consumers, delivering a platform that is fast and reliable with added utility.

Scaling a global video solution with cloud migration

What we are looking for and what we want is to streamline and optimize the infrastructure. We want to minimize the resources needed and also stabilize the performance as well as have monitoring. Now the people who are using our platform and the end clients are saying that the overall performance has been improved significantly with Google Cloud.

For over a decade, MultiTV has helped businesses leverage video technology to connect, engage, and drive audiences, enabling customers to reach their target audiences worldwide through video content effectively.

As the platform's viewer base has grown and preferences have evolved, the company saw its cloud infrastructure strain under the pressure. The company's servers struggled to keep up with viewer traffic peaks, slowing down the experience and risking downtime. Operational costs continued to rise, and manual provisioning resulted in slow development cycles.

MultiTV recognized the need to support high-concurrency video streaming, low-latency delivery, and overall cost effectiveness. It saw an opportunity to do all of this by migrating from its existing on-premises infrastructure to a cloud solution. The team found that Google Cloud, and its suite of advanced AI and machine learning (ML) tools, security infrastructure, and scalable performance would best support their growth.

"What we are looking for and what we want is to streamline and optimize the infrastructure. We want to minimize the resources needed and also stabilize the performance as well as have monitoring," says Vikas Sharma, Technical Director at MultiTV. "Now the people who are using our platform and the end clients are saying that the overall performance has been improved significantly with Google Cloud."

Designing a faster, more insightful digital video solution

With Google Cloud, MultiTV can access advanced AI tools, more automation, and machine learning to gain a sharper, competitive edge for clients, viewers, and the developers working on the platform.

On the frontend, the integration of edge caching and Cloud CDN enables MultiTV to reduce loading times, delivering high-quality video faster. "Before Google Cloud, we were getting 154ms response times from our APIs. Now, we're getting 34ms response times," says Sharma. "Similarly, our team, who have worked with Google to set up our pipeline, have automated everything. These automations have drastically accelerated deployment time.

With the help of Cloud Run and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), MultiTV has reduced deployment time by more than 80%. GKE's scalability helps the team meet fluctuating levels of traffic, and automating working processes allowed the team to focus less on upkeep and more on innovation. An uptime of 99.99% also ensures that brands and users can always have access to the content they need at any time of the day.

On the backend, MultiTV's legacy video management platform has been migrated to the cloud platform, taking advantage of Cloud Storage to store essential videos, documents, and more. This scalable storage solution helped MultiTV support one of its international clients that manages more than 50 million images.

Additionally, using Vertex AI, the company has accelerated the process of handling the enormous amount of metadata. The team can then use BigQuery to analyze that collected data more effectively, creating custom dashboards that help with informed decision-making and future planning. By reducing the work and time required to ingest, process, and analyze data, the company can now spend more time delivering on its value proposition to potential clients.

Augmenting video content with an AI-enabled go-to-market strategy

Our journey with Google Cloud has transformed not only our technical foundation but also enhanced our go-to-market agility. The scalability, combined with cutting-edge AI tools, supports our goal of delivering seamless video quality.

MultiTV is also using Vertex AI to transform familiar products into innovative new customer solutions. In addition to automated image captioning to assist in video editing processes, the company is also planning for generative video summaries to offer a more versatile, multi-media solution for its clients.

The organization is also developing a new product called Moments, which uses generative AI to create video highlights of key moments and packages them into short snippets. For clients in sports and entertainment, especially, Moments will help capture and produce nearly real-time content for fans. These snippets will also help clients quickly create micro dramas, presenting content that is typically long-form in bite-sized, on-the-go segments.

"Our journey with Google Cloud has transformed not only our technical foundation but also enhanced our go-to-market agility. The scalability, combined with cutting-edge AI tools, supports our goal of delivering seamless video quality," added Vikash Samota, founder of MultiTV.

Moving forward, there are plans to expand the use of generative AI further to conduct sentiment analysis, create multilingual, real-time captioning using Google's AI APIs, and a zero-touch deployment pipeline leveraging Google DevOps tools. The team is committed to providing both clients and their customers with the best video experience possible, through both traditional methods and embracing the possibilities of AI.
