LAAM utilizes Google Cloud integrated serverless and AI primitives to automate and optimize global commerce operations.
When LAAM launched in 2021, it carried a transformative vision: to connect global consumers with the vibrant, diverse world of South Asian fashion. Serving an international diaspora across more than 100 countries and partnering with over 3,000 active brands requires an infrastructure capable of handling non-standardized sizing, multi-market logistics, and severe traffic surges. Yet, LAAM began its journey with an incredibly lean team of just three engineers. The team faced a critical choice: spend valuable engineering hours managing servers and infrastructure, or find an agile environment that allowed them to focus exclusively on product innovation.
To bypass the operational friction of stitching together multiple third-party software contracts, fragmented billing surfaces, and separate security frameworks, LAAM chose to build entirely cloud-native on Google Cloud from day one. The technical anchor was Cloud Run, chosen to host roughly 135 stateless microservices. This eliminated the need to operate a complex Kubernetes control plane or maintain a heavy service mesh, giving developers a clean request-driven environment that scales down to zero.
Because commerce processes are inherently asynchronous, LAAM decoupled its core order, fulfillment, and inventory pipelines using Pub/Sub.
We built on Google Cloud from day one because we had a tiny team and zero time to operate infrastructure. We needed an agile environment that could handle unpredictable scaling demands without burying us in DevOps overhead or platform maintenance.

CTO, LAAM
Managing over 410 messaging topics, Pub/Sub provides exact execution guarantees, dead-letter topic replays, and strict ordering keys that protect inventory data from deduction errors. This event-driven core is backed by a high-availability Cloud SQL database tier for PostgreSQL transactional workflows, Memorystore for Redis caching, and more than 170 Cloud Storage buckets for media assets. This setup created a production-grade backend that completely removed infrastructure maintenance from the team’s daily workload.
With a highly stable infrastructure in place, LAAM turned its focus to reshaping customer and seller experiences using artificial intelligence. Utilizing Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, LAAM launched a bilingual conversational shopping engine that interprets natural, intent-driven phrases rather than rigid keywords. Shoppers can converse organically in English, Urdu, or Roman Urdu, describing specific styling, budgets, and relationships. This system works alongside Vision AI to automatically extract visual attributes from vendor imagery for instant catalog enrichment. The impact was immediate. 78% of searching customers now use conversational discovery over traditional filters.
When a massive launch drops and traffic spikes 50x, literally nothing happens on our end now. The system autoscales and self-recovers flawlessly, allowing our developers to stay focused entirely on optimizing product features and warehouse logistics rather than babysitting live servers.

This digital agility directly optimizes physical operations inside LAAM’s 135,000-square-foot fulfillment center. Leveraging Cloud Deploy to scale velocity to between 150 and 250 deployments a week with sub-minute automated rollbacks, engineers can continuously iterate on warehouse routing algorithms. Consequently, average order shipment times dropped to exactly 168 minutes, and the warehouse now processes 25,000 picks per day with 25% fewer staff members. LAAM also launched LAAM Sellers’ Panel, an AI conversational agent built by a single engineer in one week using Gemini capabilities, which delivers business insights to local designers across five regional languages, including Punjabi and Urdu.
To maintain structural discipline across its 135 modules as volume expands, LAAM partnered with Tridorian. Tridorian provides specialized architectural optimization, refining cost efficiencies and establishing strict Service Level Objectives.
Today, when a major designer launches drops and traffic spikes up to 50 times its baseline volume, the system autoscales and self-recovers flawlessly without manual intervention. By offloading executionary grind to Google Cloud, LAAM has fully digitized the fashion supply chain—empowering small local artisans to reach international markets seamlessly while the engineering team operates with complete peace of mind.
LAAM is a fashion-tech marketplace and full-stack commerce infrastructure connecting global customers with over 3,000 South Asian fashion brands across 100+ countries.
