Overcoming the infrastructure ceiling in Reinforcement Learning as a Service

While many modern enterprises recognize the value of leveraging reinforcement learning to improve large language model (LLM) reliability and alignment, very few possess the highly specialized in-house expertise required to build and maintain these complex frameworks. Operating as an emerging player in a relatively nascent market, Ethara AI, the India-based artificial intelligence research and development company, fills this exact gap. The company delivers Reinforcement Learning as a Service (RLaaS), focusing on deep technical workflows like data curation, human-in-the-loop evaluation, and precise model fine-tuning to deliver reliable outputs for clients across multiple industries.

However, as the company scaled this sophisticated service model, its infrastructure needed to evolve to keep pace with growing operational demands. Researchers at Ethara AI were juggling multiple disconnected API endpoints with no standardized key management. Standing up a new reinforcement learning (RL) environment harness meant manually coordinating credentials, model versions, and where to log results. A single expired key mid-experiment would stall a run for hours. Experiment findings lived in personal notebooks or local files; there was no shared workspace, making knowledge transfer slow and error-prone.

For an RLaaS provider, training cycles are highly iterative: an agent acts, receives a reward signal, and updates its policy millions of times. When a frontier lab needed rapid iteration on a custom RL environment, Ethara AI kept hitting failures between runs and could not turn around evaluations fast enough without dedicated capacity for reward signal generation.

This structural bottleneck proved that the patchwork tools were a ceiling to the research itself.

To build a cohesive ecosystem that could scale, Ethara AI selected Google Cloud for its reliable infrastructure, Gemini inferencing capabilities, and native integration with Google Workspace. Partnering with Avion Cloud, Ethara AI compressed weeks of trial and error into a guided engagement. Avion Cloud implemented project-level IAM controls, moving the team from ad hoc credential sharing to authenticated, monitored service accounts across all Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI) pipelines. Centralizing API key governance allowed credentials to be programmatically retrieved at runtime, eliminating hardcoded scripts and freeing the research team to focus entirely on building its core RL service.

We run complex, iterative reinforcement learning workflows for clients across multiple industries, demanding infrastructure that’s reliable, scalable, and secure. We didn’t want a patchwork of tools. Google Cloud and Workspace gave us a cohesive, enterprise-grade ecosystem that can grow alongside our business.

Scaling research iteration and securing 99% pipeline uptime with Gemini judge models

With a unified foundation built alongside Avion Cloud, Ethara AI integrated the Gemini API directly into its training loops. During day-to-day operations, the Gemini API acts as an inference-based reward model and judge model, scoring agent trajectories against specific rubric criteria inside the RL environment harnesses.

Crucially, Google Workspace and Google Cloud share the exact same identity layer. This deep synchronization allows a researcher to review Gemini-evaluated model outputs in a shared Sheet, pull the experiment configuration from Drive, and trigger a new model training run without switching tools or re-authenticating. Moving documentation to shared Docs with inline comments has entirely eliminated the coordination overhead of tracking down files and validating credentials, removing invisible productivity losses and reducing the team's daily cognitive load.

The operational impact has been immediate. Environment harness development time has been cut by approximately 2x, pipeline uptime has reached 99%, and LLM availability has improved significantly through dedicated capacity allocation. This extreme pipeline stability has directly translated into on-time delivery and client retention. Furthermore, the Google association has helped Ethara AI overcome risk anxieties during high-stakes enterprise sales conversations by instantly proving they run on audited, enterprise-grade infrastructure.

Looking ahead, Ethara AI plans to use Gemini for advanced use cases like automated reward modeling and rubric generation to build "golden trajectories" faster. By offloading the executionary grind to Gemini's reasoning engine, Ethara AI can scale to complex client domains without a proportional increase in research headcount.

Since adopting Workspace and Cloud, our internal project turnaround improved meaningfully. With Gemini inferencing integrated into evaluation pipelines, our research team iterates significantly faster. Our RL workflow integrations have become more stable, which directly translates to client satisfaction and retention.
