Managing agricultural data at a planetary scale

Agriculture operates globally, and digitizing it demands infrastructure that can process an immense geographic footprint. Cropin Technology Solutions computes agricultural intelligence across more than one billion acres in 102 countries, utilizing 15 years of proprietary ground-truth observations and spanning 400+ crops. However, as the AI-powered agri-tech company scaled, its previous cloud provider’s limitations became severe bottlenecks.

The legacy data warehouse struggled with the sheer volume and complexity of time-series data. Query performance degraded, causing critical analytics reports, which enterprise clients needed in hours, to take days. The lack of native geospatial and climate intelligence layers required heavy custom engineering. Stitching together third-party tools for satellite imagery and weather data escalated costs and latency.

Beyond technical hurdles, the stakes in agriculture are deeply human. Digitizing farming requires immense trust; a single delayed or inaccurate advisory could jeopardize a farmer’s entire crop season. Cropin needed infrastructure capable of handling warehouse-scale data while delivering hyper-local, rigorously verified insights to navigate diverse regional regulations.

Agriculture operates at planetary scale, and so does our data. We compute intelligence across more than one billion acres in 102 countries, spanning 400+ crop varieties and 15 years of ground-truth observations.

To eliminate such integration complexity, Cropin migrated its core infrastructure to Google Cloud, centralizing over 670 million agricultural observations into a real-time BigQuery data warehouse. Then, to turn this data into actionable intelligence, it launched OrbitAI on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI), using Gemini models to power an agentic workforce.

Behind the scenes, Cropin uses Google Earth Engine (GEE) and WeatherNext to process planetary satellite and climate data natively, while Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL) ensure OrbitAI remains available and reliable worldwide.

This modular architecture ensures that whether it's a sourcing manager in London tracking yields or an isolated smallholder farmer in Mexico, they receive the same hyper-local, verified advice.

Google Cloud was the only platform that brought together everything we required in a single integrated stack. Critically, Google was also a partner willing to co-build at the frontier of agricultural AI.

For instance, rather than simply alerting a farmer about an impending crop disease, Cropin closes the loop. Using Google Maps integrations on its mobile app, the platform directs the farmer to the exact field coordinate and schedules a step-by-step mitigation plan, whether that's a chemical treatment, an irrigation adjustment, or another corrective action. Once the farmer completes the recommended action, they input the results to continuously train the system.

OrbitAI similarly transforms enterprise operations. Instead of the sourcing manager spending every Monday morning manually calling regional field agents to estimate supply, OrbitAI automatically synthesizes hyper-local data to predict yields.

To build trust and prevent model hallucinations, Cropin deliberately constrains its AI strictly to its verified historical ground-truth data, ensuring customers aren't misled by generalized public information.

Scaling planetary insights without scaling headcount

Consolidating onto an integrated Google Cloud stack was transformational for Cropin, reducing overall infrastructure costs by approximately 25%. Analytics latency improved by 90%, turning multi-day reporting cycles into real-time insights delivered in seconds using OrbitAI. Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform shortened model training cycles by 30%, collapsing iterations from weeks to days and enabling parallel experimentation across more than 400 crops.

The most profound human impact was on team efficiency. By making the shift to Google Cloud, Cropin's lean team of fewer than 40 data scientists and engineers achieved a 3 to 4x increase in output. Agentic development tools like Google Antigravity let engineers delegate multi-step coding tasks, from writing features and running tests, to autonomous agents, compressing work that once required manual coordination across the team.

Combined with OrbitAI's own agentic workflows for data and model operations, this allows Cropin to support over 100 enterprise clients and deploy massive government digitization projects without proportionally increasing headcount.

Cropin is showing how, by transforming raw agricultural data into proactive, agentic workflows, it is equipping the global food value chain players to navigate climate risks and secure the future of farming.

Google Cloud delivers the trust, accuracy, scale, and security that are absolutely essential to our business.
