AlloyDB for PostgreSQL pricing

This page contains information about pricing for AlloyDB for PostgreSQL.

Pricing for AlloyDB for PostgreSQL is transparent and predictable, with no expensive, proprietary licensing and no opaque I/O charges. It is composed of the following charges:

For AlloyDB for PostgreSQL, VM memory, cluster storage, and network egress are calculated in gigabytes (GB), where 1 GB is 230 bytes. This unit of measurement is also known as a gibibyte (GiB).

CPU and memory pricing

Compute resources for AlloyDB for PostgreSQL are priced per vCPU and GB of memory, which are determined by the VMs in AlloyDB instances. A zonal primary instance uses one VM. A high availability primary instance uses two VMs, one for the active primary and a second for the in-region standby. AlloyDB read pool nodes use one VM each. When you create an instance, you choose the number of CPUs and the amount of memory you want for its VMs, up to 64 CPUs and 512 GB of memory per VM. Pricing for CPUs and memory depends on the region where your instance is located. Select your region in the dropdown on the pricing table.

Billing is on an hourly basis. Monthly prices are illustrative, assuming a 730 hour month.
If you pay in a currency other than USD, the prices listed in your currency on Cloud Platform SKUs apply.

Storage pricing

AlloyDB for PostgreSQL uses an intelligent regional storage system that automatically scales up and down. As a result, you only pay for the storage you use. Storage prices depend on the region where the instance is located. Select your region in the dropdown on the pricing table.

Networking Pricing

Ingress to AlloyDB for PostgreSQL is free. Egress pricing depends on the destination of the traffic, and in some cases, whether a specialty networking service is involved.

Inter-Region Network Egress

Inter-region network egress prices below are based on source-destination pairs and apply for traffic between cross-region AlloyDB replicas, and for traffic leaving AlloyDB to GCP services in other regions. Egress from AlloyDB within the same region is free.

Fair Usage Limits

We'd like all customers to experience AlloyDB for PostgreSQL. That's why AlloyDB is available at no cost during the preview period. This no cost usage during preview is governed by fair usage limits. Once the usage limit has been reached in a month, the overage will be billed at the full pricing shown on this page. Monthly fair usage limits for each cost component are:

  • Compute (vCPUs plus memory): $15,000 of aggregate usage across all regions
  • Storage: $650 of aggregate usage across all regions

Fair Usage Examples

Suppose you had three 500 GB clusters in Iowa (us-central1) for the whole month of June. The storage cost would be $443.77:

  • $0.0004109 per GB per hour × 1,500 GB × 24 hours/day × 30 days in June = $443.77

Because this cost of $443.77 is below the fair usage limit of $650.00 of storage per month, you would incur no charges.

Now suppose that in addition to the three 500 GB clusters in Iowa (us-central1) you also had two 500 GB clusters in London (europe-west2). The storage cost for the clusters in London would be $337.25:

  • $0.0004684 per GB per hour × 1,000 GB × 24 hours/day × 30 days in June = $337.25

The total cost of this example is $781.02 ($443.77 + $337.25) across all regions. Since this cost is above the fair usage limit of $650.00 of storage per month, you would be billed $131.02, the amount over the $650.00 limit ($781.02 - $650.00 = $131.02).
