Yatra leverages Google Cloud’s AI ecosystem to deliver autonomous travel assistants and real-time expense automation for global corporate travelers.

As a trusted corporate travel provider, Yatra manages the end-to-end travel requirements for over 6,000 corporate customers. Historically, expense management was a high-touch process defined by significant operational overhead. Reconciling fragmented receipts across global jurisdictions was a substantial manual task, with throughput often limited by the sheer volume and variability of the data.
The challenges were centered on the complexity of physical documentation. Receipts arrived in various languages and conditions, often crumpled, faded, or handwritten. Standard OCR solutions frequently failed to capture critical details like localized tax codes or non-reimbursable line items. This created bottlenecks in reimbursement cycles and challenged the consistency of fraud detection.
To address this, Yatra developed RECAP, an expense management solution built on Google Cloud. The objective was to implement a system capable of advanced reasoning beyond simple character recognition. By integrating the Vision AI, Yatra transformed manual verification into an automated workflow, enabling the precise extraction of line-item data and tax information from complex images in seconds.
Managing manual receipts required significant resources. The primary challenge was multilingual support and policy enforcement. The vision capabilities of Gemini allowed us the accuracy needed to automate these complex workflows across diverse formats.

Following the success of its expense automation, Yatra focused on the traveler’s booking experience through DIYA, its agentic AI assistant. The vision was to transition from reactive chatbots to a system capable of executing the full travel life cycle. A key technical requirement was the ability to accurately decipher user intent; specifically distinguishing between general inquiries and firm booking requests.
The transition to the Gemini 3.0 architecture within Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI) provided the necessary precision. DIYA can now process complex, non-linear queries, such as planning a multi-city international itinerary while accounting for ground travel logic and policy compliance.
Engineering collaboration with Google Cloud also focused on performance optimization, reducing receipt scanning latency from 20 seconds to a range of 3 to 4 seconds. This combination of speed and reasoning has allowed Yatra to evolve from a traditional search engine into an autonomous assistant that supports the sophisticated needs of modern corporate travelers.
With Gemini 3.0, our ability to decipher user intent improved significantly. Whether a traveler is searching for options or ready to book, the system provides a precise response, enhancing the overall user experience through sub-second performance.

Beyond operational gains, Yatra’s strategic move to Google Cloud was rooted in a long-term vision of data sovereignty and autonomous innovation. This transition began with a comprehensive infrastructure migration, where Yatra collaborated with Niveus Solutions for the migration. It helped move more than 100 servers from legacy environments to Compute Engine. In establishing this stable, scalable foundation and utilizing Gemini APIs under a secure license agreement, Yatra ensures that proprietary travel data remains isolated and encrypted, meeting the rigorous compliance standards of its 6,000+ corporate fiduciaries. This secure foundation has transformed the company into a “permanent innovation hub.”
With routine verification now automated, Yatra is converging its specialized tools, DIYA and RECAP, into a single, cohesive “traveler’s bot.” This evolution moves beyond simple automation to proactive intelligence. The system is being engineered to monitor external variables, such as weather or flight delays, to autonomously recommend and book alternative arrangements before a traveler is even aware of a disruption.
By integrating multimodal capabilities like verbal expense logging and seamless “one-click” activity reservations, Yatra is removing the traditional boundaries between planning, booking, and post-trip reporting. The result is a unified digital ecosystem where AI serves as a proactive partner, anticipating the needs of business and leisure travelers alike to deliver a truly frictionless global experience.
We are moving toward a unified journey where the distinction between booking and expense reporting disappears. By leveraging Google Cloud’s ecosystem, we are building a proactive assistant that doesn't just respond to queries but anticipates traveler needs, from flight disruptions to hyper-local recommendations.
